1934 Ford V-8 Deluxe 4-Door Sedan. Older Restoration. Black with apple green wheels and stripe. Runs good. Complete with cowl lights, dual taillights, rear mounted spare with cover and more. Flathead V-8 and 3-Speed transmission. A rare and desirable car!
Introduced in April of 1932, Henry Ford’s new V-8 proved to be an instant success. The new 1932 Fords featured a completely redesigned chassis powered by a new, V-8 engine. Although the 1932 Fords were mechanically upgraded, the body and fenders were very similar in appearance to the Model A that it replaced.
For 1933, Edsel Ford wanted a more graceful design to replace the 1932 models. Based on E.T. Gregorie’s British Model Y concept, a new model, called the Model 40 made its introduction in 1933. The new 1933 Fords featured a lower bodyline with a slanted windshield and front opening doors, often referred to as “suicide doors.” The wheelbase was increased from 106” to 112” giving the car a longer appearance. A redesigned grille was now completely separate from the radiator. It was mounted at a sharp angle and fully chromed. The fenders were now skirted and the chassis components were hidden. The new Model 40 had a dramatic and modern look. Slight upgrades continued for the 1934 models including a slightly redesigned grill and hood. The 1934s also had an upgraded V-8 engine with an increase of 10 horsepower due to a new intake manifold and two-barrel carburetor. The 1934 Ford Model 40 V-8s were available in 13 standard and deluxe body styles.
We are proud to offer this desirable 1934 Ford Model 40 Deluxe Fordor Sedan. The Deluxe Fordor Sedan was one of the most popular models offered in 1934 and had a base price of 625.00. As a deluxe model, this sedan features a chrome windshield, dual rear taillights, dual horns, a wood-grained dashboard and matching wood-grained garnish moldings-all features not seen on the standard models. This example is also equipped with a factory accessory metal spare tire cover and bumper guards.
This 1934 Ford is an extremely clean and well-presented example that has been well cared for since the restoration was completed. The body, fenders and hood are all genuine, Henry Ford steel. All of the sheet metal components are very straight and solid. The doors fit the body well and all four fenders align properly. This car sits right and looks great from all angles. The mileage indicated is about 62,000, which may be original but cannot be guaranteed.
The older black paint has a few slight blemishes but still shows nicely. It presents well with an even gloss throughout all of the body panels. The original 17” wire wheels have been recently repainted in an appropriate apple green color and fitted with newer, white wall tires. This car is accented with a correct, matching apple green pin stripe.
The car retains all of its proper and correct 1934 components including the original chrome grill, bumpers, horns, stainless steel headlights, cowl lights, and taillights. All of these items have been restored and still present well.
On the inside, the car was properly refinished at the time of restoration with a period correct mohair interior with a matching headliner and door panels. The interior is in very nice condition and shows only minimal signs of use. The dashboard and original garnish moldings have been restored with a proper wood grained pattern. The dashboard has its original instruments and controls. The windshield wiper motor and visors are currently missing but replacements are readily available. The rear passenger compartment has it original ashtrays. All of the interior hardware is correct and proper for 1934 including the door and window handles, door locks, assist straps, etc. The glass is in very good condition and the windows operate properly.
Under the hood, the 21 stud, flathead V-8 engine starts easily and appears to run well. The engine bay is very clean and has been recently detailed. Underneath, the frame and chassis components show the typical signs of cosmetic wear that one would expect from an older restoration but are still clean and presentable. Careful inspection shows that this was always a solid and well cared for automobile.
The 1933 and1934 Fords represent a benchmark in prewar automotive styling. Collectors have appreciated these models for many decades and stock, unmodified examples rarely become available. This 1934 Ford Model 40 Deluxe Fordor sedan will make a great addition to any car collection.
