1976 Ford F-150 4X4 Ranger XLT Shortbed Additional Info:
Really nice, all stock, well maintained, great running and driving 1976 Ford F150 Ranger XLT shortbed 4X4 pickup truck. It was used as a hunting rig for years and most recently has been doing a lot of sitting with the occasional drive around the block to keep things fresh (it most recently passed a Utah safety inspection in late September; oil and lube in early December as well). The only really bad rust-through is what you can see on the bedsides which is a very common 1973-1979 Ford styleside pickup bed issue.
Other than the bedsides (patch panels are only $25 per side from LMC Truck), the body is in good condition with only modest rust to the cab (please ask for my additional pictures). All exterior panels are straight. The undercarriage is solid with surface rust only. The shell comes with it as does the nifty aftermarket toolbox bolted in the bed. The coolest thing about the exterior is the awesome period-correct diamond plate steel winch bumper with lockingstorage up front. It's pre-drilled so a classic Warn 8274 winch and fairlead will bolt right up. All exterior lights work. Glass is good other than a windshield crack at the top left (not in field of vision).
The interior is in good condition with some rust-through on the floorboards(patch panels are only $40 per side from LMC Truck). I've treated them with a rust converter so it wont spread. The dash is in great condition with original buttons and knobs in place and working and no cutting or butchery of any kind. The only deviation from stock is a vintage JVC AM/FM/cassettedeck (and it works). All gauges work as well. Door open and close solidly and windows roll up and down properly.
The running gear is a massive strong point. I was told the 4bbl 360cid V8 was rebuilt 25,000 miles ago and I believe it. It starts right up and runs great. It also sounds awesome with vintage Cherry Bomb style Blue Streak mufflers and dual exhaust. The bulletproof NP435 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and the NP205 transfer case works great. Front diff is a high-pinion Dana 44 with Superwinch locking hubs and disc brakes. Rear diff is the legendary Ford 9 inch. It also has power brakes and power steering. And it just had new tires installed less than 800 miles ago along with a recent master cylinder/vacuum boost replacement and new battery. This is the Holy Grail drivetrain package for this era of Ford truck.
This is a great rig. If you can get past the rusty bedsides issue (and remember, patch panels are only $25 each) you'll have a truck which has otherwise awesome bones. It hasn't been buggered up like so many so it can be restored, upgraded, or left alone. The running gear is awesome which means it can be a daily driver today. It drives very tight and solid with virtually no rattles. The cosmetic issues are common and easily fixable while you drive it. Or just leave it alone and enjoy it as it is. Hagerty recently identified 1973-1979 Ford trucks as one of the next big movers in the collectibles market. It can be a practical toy and an investment (just some food for thought).
