For decades, the Ford 3 Window Coupe has been a favorite among street rodders, largely due to its flowing style and suitability for a host of eye-catching alterations. As we know with modified vehicles, well-chosen accessories, high standards and attention to detail go a long way toward creating an impressive result. This 1932 Ford 3 Window Coupe scores big on all of these fronts. It's a well-equipped street rod that exudes style, and offers some great creature comforts to make it a car you'll really love to take out on the road.
The fiberglass body by Gibbon, with its Oxford White paint and very clean pinstriping, give this '32 undeniable curb appeal. Take a lap around the entire car and you'll see work that's been done right. The shaved doors show no perforations or flat spots and the chopped top exhibits just the right amount of modification - enough to show off its street rod roots without going so far as to provide an impractical environment for driving. The pinstriping itself shows nice clean lines that tastefully complement this vintage street machine's hue while stopping well short of overpowering it. There are some very effective stylistic choices on display here that take an inspired detour from the norm - the front axle has been painted to match the exterior and the side mirrors and shocks both show a brushed aluminum finish in place of the more common shiny chrome. With all its curvature, the Coupe has an almost art deco appearance and yet still looks very street-ready. The body panels have been well-aligned - showing nice, even gaps at the hood, doors and fenders and the glass on all sides is clear and unclouded, with a fresh-looking seal surrounding the windshield up front.
Take a look inside and you'll see more inspiration on display with the very cool gray tweed interior. Covering the two adjoining, low-profile and well-padded bucket seats - as well as the panels on the pair of suicide doors and lining the remainder of the cabin - the tweed fabric is both another departure from what you often see, and an effective look in its own right, providing an appealing environment for driver and passenger and showing nary a wrinkle anywhere you look. A set of appropriately vintage looking VDO gauges sit inside the white steel expanse of the dash area, interspersed with three seamlessly installed registers from which the climate control system, which is operating in fine form, will keep you and your passenger nice and comfortable. In contrast to the often sparse accommodations you see in street rods, there are a number of other nice creature comforts here, including power windows, remote doors, a tilt column and an AM/FM/CD system to provide your soundtrack when you hit the road. In back, the trunk area also sports matching fabric on its walls, with coolly contrasting dark carpet lining the floor.
Raise the tapered hood and you'll see a Chevy 350V8 sitting inside the well-detailed engine bay. Outfitted with a Winters aluminum intake and an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, it's running strong and idles smoothly and is paired with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that shifts with confidence-inspiring smoothness. This vintage Coupe drives nice and tight - its suspension is functioning very much on point - and sits with a slight incline on 15" Weld Racing rims, outfitted with a set of BF Goodrich tires, including a pair of massive, asphalt-grabbing 285s in back.
