1965 FORD GALAXIE 500, 2 DOOR, FASTBACK. PRESENTLY SENIOR OWNED, PREVIOUS OWNER WAS A SENIOR AS WELL, BOTH OF US ARE IN OUR SEVENTIES. THIS CAR IS NOT CONCOURS, BUT COMPETES QUITE WELL WITH OTHERS THAT HAVE BEEN PROFESSIONALLY DONE, HAS BEEN TO MANY SHOWS WITHOUT EVEN ONE NEGATIVE COMMENT. WHAT YOU WILL READ, STARTED WITH A EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY CAR TO BEGIN WITH.
CAR IS BASICALLY ABOUT AS ORIGINAL AS COULD BE EXPECTED BUT WITH VERY MINOR IMPROVEMENTS. ORIGINAL INTERIOR HAS RECENTLY BEEN REPLACED WITH A CLOTH SET, FRONT DRIVER BUCKET SEAT IS NOW FULLY ADJUSTABLE ELECTRIC. PASSENGER IS MANUAL WITH STANDARD ADJUSTMENTS. A CONSOLE WAS ADDED, FROM A FORD EXPLORER. THE ORIGINAL SET IS A BENCH FRONT AND REAR WITH ORIGINAL UPHOLSTERY IN FACTORY VINYL. STILL IN RESPECTABLE CONDITION AND WILL BE INCLUDED IN SALE. LEATHER AND VINYL ARE BRUTAL IN THE DESERT HEAT! ANYTHING THAT WAS CHANGED CAN BE PUT BACK TO ORIGINAL IN ABOUT 6 HOURS. ALL ITEMS THAT WERE CHANGED HAVE BEEN SAVED AND WILL BE INCLUDED.
THERE IS NO RUST, AS IN NO RUST--- ANYWHERE. ALL SHEET METAL IS ORIGINAL AND SOLID. SOMETIME IN IT’S PAST IT HAS BEEN REPAINTED, BUT WAS QUALITY APPLICATION, AND THE ABSOLUTE ORIGINAL COLOR, SPRINGTIME YELLOW. NOT A MARK ON IT. ALL DOORS, WINDOWS, HOOD, AND TRUNK FIT AS THEY DID WHEN NEW. CORRECT SIZE TIRES ARE NEW AT ENGINE REBUILD TIME(500 MILES), ON THE ORIGINAL WHEELS. HAS SPARE INCLUDING ORIGINAL JACK
ALL GLASS IS IN STUNNING CONDITION. WINDOWS ARE MANUAL AND OPERATE AS THEY WERE NEW, TIGHT AND WITH PERFECT FIT. ALL OTHER INTERIOR PIECES ARE ORIGINAL. HEADLINER IS AS NEW BUT ORIGINAL. RADIO IS FACTORY AM AND WORKS POORLY AS ONE WOULD EXPECT. DOORS CLOSE WITH JUST A TOUCH OF A FINGER. ALL TRUNK, DOOR, AND WINDOW SEALS WERE REPLACED BY PREVIOUS OWNER. CAR WAS BUILT IN SACREMENTO, SHIPPED TO A PORTLAND OREGON DEALER AND FIRST SOLD IN LATE 1965 WHEN NEW. DOCUMENTATION IS IN HAND SHOWING SOME OF THE HISTORY. INCLUDES ORIGINAL REGISTRATION BOOKLET. CARPET LOOKS NEW, BUT MAY HAVE BEEN REPLACED, NOT SURE. NO WEAR ON CARPET. DOOR PANELS ARE ORIGINAL BUT DO SHOW A LITTLE AGE AS ONE WOULD EXPECT. A TRIPLE SET OF GAUGES HAS BEEN ADDED JUST UNDER THE CENTER OF THE DASH, TEMP, OIL PRESS, VOLT, ALL AUTOMETER. NEW H/LITE AND IGN SWITCHES.
ALL STAINLESS TRIM IS NEAR PERFECT. BUMPERS HAVE BEEN RECHROMED BY PREVIOUS OWNER. ALL ORIGINAL TRIM IS PRESENT AND ON THE CAR AND CORRECT. BEAUTIFUL CONDITION. GRILL IS ALMOST LIKE NEW BUT HAS ONE VERY SMALL ROCK DING. TAKES A CLOSE INSPECTION TO FIND IT. HEADLITE AND TAILITE BEZELS ARE EXCEPTIONAL. WIPERS ARE TWO SPEED AND ARMS ARE STILL THE ORIGINAL STAINLESS UNITS(NEW BLADES).
HEATER WORKS AS DESIGNED, A/C BLOWS COLD AT 38* WHEN OUTSIDE TEMP IS 100*. ALL UNDERHOOD A/C ITEMS WERE REPLACED INCLUDING: NEW, (NOT REBUILT), COMPRESSOR, NEW CLUTCH, NEW DRIER, ALL NEW HOSES. TWO 7” ELECTRIC FANS WERE ADDED TO FRONT OF A/C CONDENSER BECAUSE I DRIVE LIKE A SENIOR CITIZEN---SLOW.
FRONT BRAKES WERE DONE BY PREVIOUS BUT HE DID NOT DO THE CYLINDERS, I HAVE JUST REDONE THEM 2 WEEKS AGO. NOW IN PROCESS OF COMPLETELY REDOING THE REARS, CYLS, SPRING KITS AND CORRECT ORGANIC SHOES. ALL DRUMS ARE ORIGINAL AND IN STUNNING CONDITION. RECENTLY REPLACED POWER BRAKE ASSEMBLY ONLY BECAUSE M/CYL WAS ORIGINAL AND LEAKED FLUID INTO BOOSTER. ALL VACUUM HOSES WERE REPLACED UNDER-DASH.
THE ENGINE! IT’S THE ORIGINAL 390 AND HAS HAD A NICE FRESHEN-UP DONE LAST YEAR. NOW HAS ABOUT 500 MILES. INTERNALS WERE STILL VERY NICE WITH EXCEPTION OF THE CAN AND ONE LIFTER. THOSE WERE REPLACED WITH TRUE 1965 GRIND CAM AND LIFTERS, NEW SET OF ROCKER ARM ASSEMBLIES. EVERYTHING IS SEALED POWER. ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE STANDARD. CHAIN AND GEARS AND OIL PUMP ARE NEW. FACTORY ORIGINAL INTAKE BUT HAS A HOLLEY 600 TO REPLACE TROUBLESOME MOTORCRAFT. PLUG WIRES, MOTOR AND TRANS MOUNTS, FREEZE PLUGS, WATER PUMP, FUEL PUMP, BELTS, HOSES, ALL FILTERS, BATTERY CABLES(4G WELDING CABLE), ALL NEW. HEADS HAVE A FULL SET OF NEW SEALED POWER VALVESPLUS HARDENED EXHAUST SEATS.
P/S PUMP WAS RESEALED AT REBUILD. DISTRIBUTOR HAS A PERTRONIX UNIT INSTALLED. PREVIOUS OWNER REPLACED THE EXHAUST WITH A CLOSE RENDITION OF FACTORY, STILL LOOKS FACTORY. SHOCKS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED WITH STANDARD UNITS, RIDES LIKE DREAM. ALL SUSPENSION IS ORIGINAL AND SHOWS NO INDICATION OF BAD BEHAVIOR. RADIATOR IS ORIGINAL AND STUNNING IN CONDITION, RUNS BORDERLINE WHEN PHOENIX TEMPS GOTO 100*. BUT, I DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR IN OUR SUMMER HEAT! IT SITS FROM MAY UNTIL OCT. TRANSMISSIOM IS THE ORIGINAL CRUISEOMATIC "GREEN DOT". THERE IS A SMALL DRIP FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRANS. SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM A SMALL INSPECTION PLATE ON REAR OF CASE OR TAILHOUSING. GASKET IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, IT'S A MAKE YOUR OWN. ALSO, THE REAR MAIN SEAL DRIPS VERY SLIGHTLY. I KNEW BETTER THAN TO CHOOSE A FELPRO SEAL. McCord GASKET CO. IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MAKES A FOOLPROOF KIT----IMHO. IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN PHOENIX. FOR THOSE THAT ARE FIRMILIAR WITH THIS ENGINE KNOW THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THE MAIN BEARING CAP SIDE SEALS ARE DIFFICULT UNLESS YOU BUY THE McCord SEAL. I DONT LET EITHER OF THESE ISSUES BOTHER ME SINCE THEY ARE SMALL.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND HAVING THIS CAR INSPECTED BEFORE YOU BID, THERE IS NOTHING TO HIDE AND I WOULD BE AMAZED IF YOU BECAME DISAPPOINTED. THIS IS NOT A RESTORED FLOOD VICTIM AND HAS HAD BEEN DRIVEN WITH THE MOST SINCERE OF RESPECT.
