There's no car more deserving of street rod treatment than the 1962 Ford Fairlane 500. It earns its afterburner-style taillights with an enhanced 460 big block; and with all the bold paint, this might just be the most affordable street outlaw you've ever seen! This coupe wants everyone to remember exactly who you are. The striking purple metallic paint has so much clearcoat shine, they even allowed it to take over places usually reserved for chrome - like the front and rear bumpers. But you can tell there's a lot more going on here than just the striking color. The custom hood has a power bulge, and the rear tires are so large that only a hint of them can peek out from underneath Ford's built in-fender skirt design. But the boldest part of this coupe is something that came from the factory. In 1961 the Fairlane received the Thunderbird's distinct round taillights. They would be toned down the next year, so this powerful custom build has the unique appearance of afterburners.Step inside and the festival of purple continues, but now it's part of a comfortable tweed packaging. This is broken up by cool touches of aggressive yellow on the power bucket seats, door panels, and headliner. There are no back seats because this is a street-eating machine that wants to save weight, and really, the driver is the important person in the coupe. You know that the moment you slip behind the three-spoke power steering wheel, gaze over the full set of AutoMeter Pro Comp gauges, and hear something wicked fire up under the hood. The engine bay looks amazing with the matching metallic purple fenders, purple wires, and even a return of the accent yellow on the engine block. But as much as people love to see all that (and the shiny bits, too) it's the substance that really counts. You're looking at a Ford 460 cubic-inch big block V8. It's enhanced with performance goodies such as an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and MSD ignition. So you better believe this monster motor has plenty of bite to back up the dual exhaust's ferocious bark. The power is sent through Ford's heavy duty C6 three-speed automatic on its way to the stout nine-inch rear end. As you saw earlier, this coupe tries to hide its massive back rubber inside a tubbed rear. But those extra wide Mickey Thompson tires on the purposeful and shiny Weld racing wheels are what street legends are made of. This is backed up by a four-link adjustable coilover rear end. Plus, there's a fuel cell integrated into the trunk and the battery is relocated there too, for better safety and help add weight/traction on those rear wheels. This is the kind of packaging you dream about great paint, custom interior, and serious hardware backing up a performance big block. There's so much here at such an affordable price. So we know that if you don't pick this one up soon, you'll be meeting it out on the street or at a show every weekend. Call today!
