This is a very early ( July 28th 1964 )California built Mustang .....Built shortly after Ford started production at the San Jose
California plant .....orders for the new Mustang were inundating Ford's ability to keep up with demand so the west coast plant in Milpitas California ( commonly referred to as the San Jose plant) was quickly ramped up at modelchangeover to the new Ford Mustang that was taking the new car industry by storm
This is an excellent driving Mustang that I believe can be driven anywhere in comfort. The engine, transmission and clutch, rear diff are all in good condition . The brakes and front end suspension are sound and the exhaust is good too.
The interior is very nice for it's age but it has had Pony upholstery and white standard door panels installed to make the interior differen, and it would not be hard or expensive to change both back to Blue standard if you wanted to..... But if you have ever driven a 65-66 Mustang with Pony Seat, they are more comfortable than standard...with just a subtle cushion difference...and theyare strikingly moreattractive in my opinion
The paint is older ( 20 years) and though still looking good from 10 f, the paint has it's flaws ( rate 5-6 on a 1-10 scale), though not unusual for a driver but paint is this car's weakest point...and this car is able to be driven and enjoyed as it is but if you want it to be top notch then a paint jobwill be in order
The body is straight and it has had lower quarter panels installed years ago at restoration time... solid floors & underbody, frame rails, torque boxe, front and rear, trunk floors, front frame rails ......
All of the gauge, instrument lights, under dash courtesy lights, radio, rally pac tach operate as they should....the heater operates also...
The car runs well, shifts good, stops well and is a pleasure to drive ......
The white convertible top keeps the water out but has pinholes inthe driver side of the top an, though doesn't needreplacing right now, itwillin the future
All chrome and bright trim are in good condition
All in al, this hard to find 64 1/2 model is a very good find and sure to increase in value over time
if history is any indicatio, the early cars are doing well in the marketplace and hard to find
