Hi, I purchased this car with the intent topart out arare 4-speed 1971 Mustang convertible.I ran the Marti report through Marti Auto Works and was pleased to find it was in fact an original super-rare car. In 1971 Ford produced 149,678 Mustangs. Of that number only 6,121 or 4% were convertibles. People get carried away and reduce that rarity using a varietyof options which makes no sense. You really want to only drill down tobody style (Convertible), engine (351 Cleveland'M' code 4-barrel) and transmission (4-speed wide ratio Toploader). This car is then one of only 176 ragtops with the 351C 4Vand 4-speed combo. So this representsunder 2.9%of all convertibles!Clear title, dash tag matches the title which matches the Marti report.
Now, the vehicle is perfect for a donor or to make that 302 car a 351 car with a 4-speed and a 9-inch rear end. Please be advised that you will not be restoring the body on this one. That 'ship has sailed'. I am a car guy and will not mislead anyone. This Mustang must have been a beautiful caroriginally. Argent (silver) with black top and interior.Power steering and power brake car. Ram-air systemis gone but was optioned with that originally. It also has the lock down hood and receptacles, grill is good.Décor group, protection group and competition suspension. This car did not come with deluxe interior, gauges or tach but hashas tinted glass (OEM Sun-X), front chin spoiler, real dual outlet valence (bent) anddual racing mirrors. Please feel free to ask questions or call me at (905) 775-9480. Thanks for looking!
Note: I actually pursued this car 10 years ago but couldn't strike a deal on it.The finalphoto is the 1972 black convertible I had wanted to convert to a 4-speed at the time. That 72was sold long ago but I always loved that look.
I have a clear title. We can arrange pick up as vehicle will go on trailer only.I am located just north of Toronto, 90 minutes from Niagara Falls. Straightforward drive, near major highways.I'll work with you to make transportation convenient and easy.Low reserve. Best regards, Bob
Engine Details:All original but the intake & carb werereplaced with an Edelbrock performer and a Holley carb. If you want the original style carb I have one. I understood the motorran as recently as last year but I cannot prove that. Owner advised he had it running using fuel from container as gas tank is in the trunk.I wouldnot try to start it without checking the motor first. Put oil into cylinders, oil change, turn over by hand and new plugs etc.351 Clevelands are just great motors. This one also has the original OEM tough-to-find exhaust manifolds.
351 Cleveland M-code
The M-code was a high-compression, high-performance variation of the 351C, produced in 1970 and 1971. The M-code engines used the large-port 4V heads with a closed "quench" combustion chamber and large valves. These engines also included cast-aluminum flat-top pistons, stiffer valve springs, a high-performance hydraulic camshaft, and a squarebore Autolite 4300-Acarburetor. The 1970 engines were 11.0:1 compression and produced 300bhp (224kW; 304PS) at 5400 rpm, while 1971 versions had a slightly lower compression ratio of 10.7:1, and produced 285bhp (213kW; 289PS) at 5400 rpm. The M-code 351C required premium fuel and was available in the 1970-71 Mustang, Torino, Montego and Cougar.
