1970 Mustang Hardtop, VIN 0F01F120385
I bought the Mustang in February of 2010 when I was actually looking at another car for a friend of mine. What attracted me was the color (Lime Metallic), the blackwall tires, and poverty hubcaps. I'm into the stripper, sleeper car image. When I looked the car over closely, I realized it had NO RUST, no radio, no power steering, no power brakes, etc. I inquired about the car to the seller and he produced the Marti Report, and it showed only two options on the 302 V-8 powered car. First was the C4 automatic transmission, and second were the E78-14 blackwall tires. Newer versions of the tires are currently on the car. I suspected it was an older person's car due to the lack of options and the great condition it was in. My suspicions were confirmed when the seller told me that a lady had ordered the car new, with only the V-8 and automatic transmission. It was her baby and she used the car sparingly, only accumulating 52,000 miles until her passing. Her kids kept the car and had it professionally repainted at a cost of $7000 back around 2009. The car is pristine, with little indicators like the cigarette lighter never being used, and the ashtray literally brand new looking. The super rare radio delete plate is like new too!
When I got the car home, I made improvements to it by removing the single exhaust and installing a quality dual exhaust. I also installed a new dash pad (replacing the master cylinder and heater core at the same time), plus new bright work including the back up lights, gas cap, sill plates, grille trim, etc. I have other new parts for it and kept all the old parts I took off the car (they all go with the car).
When I replaced the dash pad, I took out the seats and carpet to inspect the floors. Of course, they were like new. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a picture at the time. I did find the build sheet and pulled it out and have it in a plastic sleeve.
The car is totally numbers matching. It runs and drives nicely, and is extremely dependable. It is a fun cruiser that attracts a lot of attention whenever I take it out. It also caught the attention of Tom Shaw, former editor of The Mustang Magazine, as well as Muscle Car Review magazine. He did a feature story on it a couple years back for The Mustang Magazine. Please look at the pictures.
