1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
50,000 ORIG MILE California CAR and the frame is solid and 90% rust-free
For sale, a very original 1955 Ford Thunderbird with the frame is solid and 90% rust-free that is a true survivor in every sense of the word. The Thunderbird which was first unveiled to the public on February 20, 1954 at the Detroit Auto Show created a new market segment of a "Personal Luxury Car" and went on to steal the hearts and smiles of many motorists.
As the Corvette had a similar roadster style it was marketed as more of a sports car and most early models were absent of many options that the American public was starting to appreciate for the sake of comfort and convenience. This little 'bird has options that were almost unheard of at the time and some particular rare options as well including the 3-speed transmission with Overdrive, power steering, power brakes, AM radio, with True Spoke wheels with a 4NEW radial tires and even a power seat.
This T-Bird has a great history having been purchased from the original owner in the California desert in the 1970's and taken back to Dover, DE. Not only has the vehicle been very well maintained in a climate controlled building since being purchased but it is one of the nicest preserved, original cars you are likely to see.
Two-seater Thunderbirds have been a staple of the hobby since, well, the very beginning. The appeal of cars like this '55 Thunderbird is easy to understand: V8 power, a carefree attitude, a top that goes down, and lots of style. This is a spectacular car in a rare color with some nice upgrades, offering a great Thunderbird experience that will stop traffic everywhere you go.
Admittedly, Thunderbirds are popular cars and there are a lot of them for sale at any given moment, but if you've looked at them, you already know that good ones are sometimes tough to find. This one is absolutely good in every way, starting with the rare original shade of Peacock Blue with matching blue and white interior finish that really stands out. For many, the '55s are a favorite with numerous upgrades, and there's nobody who doesn't smile when they see this little convertible coming. The paint is just good, and aside from a chip near the hood, we can't find many flaws to mention; we have spent a ton of time and money on this car and it shows. Door gaps are good, the hood sits flush and the fender skirts all fit well, more evidence of expensive, careful work. Chrome, which is always a big part of any '50s car's appeal, is good with the rear bumper offering built-in exhaust ports in the outer corners. Look it over carefully and you'll see that there is a lot to like here.
Under the hood you will see the original 292 cubic inch V8 and Still has the original Holley four-barrel carburetor that is a perfect mate to the 3-speed floor shift transmission with overdrive that is great for gas mileage on the highway. In order to make sure this car is ready to be put back on the road the following work and maintenance has been completed: New brake shoes, master and wheel cylinders, brake hoses, adjuster kits, rear axles seals, transmission seals and gaskets and sway bar link bushings were installed. New battery and cables and Electronic Ignition Kit and Coil were installed, the carburetor was overhauled, and the heavy-duty Fan blade for extra cooling replaced, and 4New radial tires, and New 3way seatbelts installed, Also, all of the engine fluids and the transmission fluid was changed and full tune up completed and making this car ready for the open road.
The interior blue and white; after all, the idea behind the Thunderbird isn't to keep a low profile. The carpets are new seats and door panels were restored a few years ago and show minimal wear. If you like the historical significance of vehicles from the past, have a passion for nostalgia and desire only the highest quality in preserved original cars, this one is for you!
Driving this car with the top down is like taking a trip down memory lane. Most old cars from the '50's and '60's can be cumbersome and difficult to drive but not this beauty. One turn of the key and the V8 comes to life and this car rides and handles like a more modern car and is sure to get plenty of attention on the road.
