1965 Ford Mustang Additional Info:
This Mustang is a one owner, unrestored, very original car. The "1964 1/2" D-codewas the top performance package for the early Mustangs:289 motor with the Autolite 4 barrel carb and a 4 speed manualtransmission (Top Loader). The car was driven and maintained but was kept just as it came from the factory. It's nice to see one so original but that isn't so crazy-expensive that you would worry aboutdriving it!
An American serviceman serving overseas ordered this Mustang and had it shipped to him directly from the Dearborn factory. He must have ordered early because this car was built less than two months after the Mustang was introduced. He had some rustproofing applied when it was new and it worked! The car is not rusty. Wheel wells, rockers, floors, trunk, etc...all solid, all metal.
The 289 motor is still running it's generator and factory original carburetor (rebuilt two weeks ago). There are no new electronics or speed parts. The brakes are good and the power steering works just right. This car starts right up and the motor pulls well in all four gears.
This Mustang is nicely optioned: air conditioning, console, Rally Pac gauges (the tach works!), reverse lights, and power steering. The dash gauges all work, as do the wipers, lights, signals, door locks, ventilation system, etc. The factory original interior looks nice...it's all by Ford! The car is watertight and the windows close snugly. The doors shut and latch particularly well. The window sweeps and door seals are all good. Recently installed:brake lines, fuel lines, master cylinder, voltage regulator, belts, hoses, spark plug wires.
Everything about the air conditioning works...except the cold air part. The fan on the interior unit works and the temp knob does turn on the compressor. It seems to just blow room temperature but I don't think it's cold. The AC compressor is not installed in all the pictures but is installed now.
At some point, the owner must have had the engine pulled to fix something, and before it went back in, he had the engine painted. A good idea... except that it was repainted in blue as all the motors were after '65. The top half of the motor has been repainted in the engine bay in the correct colors. The white paint looks pretty good and has had paint chips touched up. The windows are nice and not foggy. The windshield has marks from the wipers rubbing.
When you see and drive the car, it's 60's Ford all the way.Theoriginalowner never removed anything in order to put on a reproduction part (except the bumper guards).Just a few missing parts were replaced.Nothing was painted over to hide flaws, grunge, or rust.Of course, the wheels are not original. They are vintage Magnum 500 wheels that didn't appear on Mustangs until 1966. I have two of the original rims and the four hubcaps that I think are original to the car (they definitely are not reproductions (the Ford paper labels are still inside. )
I want bidders to feel confidentabout bidding on a car they don't get to see in person soplease look at all the extra pictures (many have captions with extra info) and ask me any questions you have. The pictures look great but the car is not perfect and notevery little thing is factory original. The car is being offered as is and without warranty. The car is sold when the auction ends!
