Offered for sale is a sunny Southern Californiarust free Honey Gold Poly 1965 Mustang coupe. The Mustang has spent its entire life in sunny Southern California and still sports its original California black license plates! Also included with the car is the original owner's manual, a restoration guide and a technical manual from Los Angeles County Library (1974). This is a nice little Mustang that can be enjoyed as-is or restored.
I purchased the Mustang a year or so ago from a family friend. The Mustang was tucked away in her garage where it had sat unused since her father passed away (2013) leaving the car to her. Her father purchased the car in 2001 in Santa Monica, California. From then until his passing the Mustang was his pride and joy!
The Mustang is a lifelong California vehicle and as a result is rust free and very well preserved! The perfect rig for Saturday cruises or Sunday coffee! And loaded with air, power steering, Ivy Gold and White pony interior, deluxe door panels, 140 MPH speedometer, upgraded instrument cluster, woodgrain instrument panel and glovebox, manual front disc brakes (added in 2001), GT dual exhaust (added in 2017) and magnum style wheels (added in 2016).
The Mustang is a nice little car but is 52 years old and has never been restored. Aside from a repaint, a new driver's seat cover and new carpet the car is pretty much original and ready for, and deserving of, a restore. Or, as mentioned before, drive it and enjoy as it is. They are only original once!
Exterior:One older repaint years ago. Normal scratches and chips from use.The Mustang's body shows 52 years of light use with dings and scratches but no major body damage. The most significant damage is on the hood which has dents on both sides by the hinges and damage on the leading edge (of the hood) on the passenger's side. The driver's fender also has light damage on the leading edge of the wheel-well. Last, there is light bubbling at the quarter panel to top seam on the passenger's side of the car. All of the chrome and molding has pitting and should be replaced if the car is being restored. This includes both bumpers. Glass is good and all windows roll up and down fine. Trunk and doors close nicely and have decent fit-up. If a full restore is being contemplated plan on replacing all the seals and weather stripping.
There are all sorts ofMustangsscreaming"rust free" in all caps in Ebay ads, this one actually is! While replacing the carpet I found light pitting on the rear floorboard/passengers side. Instead of covering over the pitting I had the entire rear section of the passenger's side floorboard professionally removed and replaced. Wheels have been repainted and are in great shape and tires are new!
Interior: Except for the driver's seat and the carpet the interior is original and in good shape. Plan on replacing the sunvisors and, if doing a full restore, the headliner. No rodent damage or smells. All gauges are working, all lights are working. Not working are the radio, A/C, horn, and heater. A/C compressor and bracket are missing and heater core needs replaced. For being 52 years old the interior is really very nice!
Mechanical:Goodmechanical condition. This Mustang was never abused raced or cut up. Very well maintained its entire life and after a long term slumber the Mustang received the following work:
1) Accelerator pump diaphragm
2) New exhaust
3) Oil change
4) Trans. service
5) Transmission serviced
6) New plugs and wires
7) New coolant
8) All other fluid levels checked.
The Mustang is very original with only a few minor modifications. A tastefully done dual exhaust exiting through a GT valence with GT tips, an aftermarket non-power front disc brake conversion and magnum wheels with 60 series raised white letter Cooper Cobra radial tires. The 289 V8 is strong and starts, runs, and drives out well with only one minor drip - nothing major. I've been driving it and it really is smooth, tight, and nice. Every so often I will see a puff of blue smoke on start-up and hear light valve train noise but nothing major.
If you are in the market for a Mustang this is one to be considered. Mustang coupes are a dime a dozen but a loaded up California original Mustang does not come along very often. There only original and California fresh once! Don't miss out!
