SUMMARY
The beneficiary of a professional, ground-up build that was completed in late 2011The great thing about the evolution of hot rodding is: over the past 30 years a vast array of excellent products has continually streamed onto the market. And presently, anyone with a check book and an affinity for going way too fast and looking way too good can build anything from state-of-the-art avant-garde to old school cool. This sweet Ford coupe, wrapping a modern chassis and reliable V8 in show stopping aesthetics, is a ground-up build that combines the core strengths of original hot rodding with an uncompromising vision and top-notch componentry. And, if you're looking to score a fully sorted custom that mixes classic good looks with proven road manners, it's a strong candidate for your next street rod!
BODYWORK/TRIM
This hot 3-window's smooth body, which began life at Outlaw Performance in Avonmore, Pennsylvania, is some of the best technology the industry has to offer. Fully reinforced, hand-laminated and completely cured to ensure quality that's consistent with steel, its solid fiberglass panels display a level of fit and finish that inspires complete driver confidence. Of course, to successfully execute any ultra-clean street rod means you need to go the extra mile and get everything laser-straight. And fortunately, the guys sanding on this slick Ford had a deep appreciation for their work. Hours of dogged dedication created a perfect canvas for a sizzling coat of red 2-stage. And today, this stunning custom is a swell of virtually unbroken reflections that create one vivacious yet tailored classic!
Of course, tailored doesn't necessarily mean boring. This well-executed coupe strikes an excellent balance between Ford's unique pre-war design and the monochromatic style of modern hot rodding. At the front of the car, a polished grille anchors a custom "32" badge above modern, chrome-trimmed headlights and a polished spreader bar. At the top of the car, a stainless-trimmed hood flows to a chopped roof that props a polished wiper on smoked glass. At the sides of the car, a characteristically clean profile hangs stylish billet mirrors above shaved suicide doors and smooth running boards. And at the back of the car, a shaved decklid tops a polished fuel filler, a second polished spreader and chrome-trimmed, LED taillights. There's certainly no mistaking a classic Ford shape, but this coupe has an identity all its own thanks to a cohesive theme, careful workmanship and exceptional attention to detail.
ENGINE
Check this custom's glossy engine bay and you'll find a mean, 350 cubic inch Chevrolet small block that's plowed less than 5K miles of dry blacktop. At the top of that color-keyed powerplant, a polished air cleaner forces wind in to a Weber-style carburetor. At the base of that carb, a coated intake hangs an aftermarket HEI distributor between chrome valve covers and proven Chevrolet heads. At the base of those covers, loomed Taylor plug wires snake around coated block hugger headers. In front of those tubes, traditional V-belts spin billet pulleys, which are bolted to a polished alternator and a coated AC compressor. And in front of those ancillaries, a tough Walker radiator utilizes a big puller fan to keep the engine cool and the driver confident. Aesthetically, both the monochromatic mill and its assortment of bright accessories seem right at home inside their body-matched frame. And details like chrome dipsticks, a polished coolant tank and a polished oil pan ensure this classic looks every bit as good as it runs.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
As with its tight body, this Ford's first class chassis was supplied by Outlaw Performance of Avonmore, Pennsylvania. The spry small block turns a tough Turbo-Hydramatic 350, which spins 3.00 gears around a Currie 9-inch axle. That axle rides on a modern 4-link, which benefits from fresh coil-over-shocks. That 4-link pushes an independent front-clip, which sandwiches two more coil-overs between polished control arms. That suspension turns thanks to lucid rack-and-pinion steering. Stops come courtesy of polished Wilwood calipers, which clamp a combination of vented and solid rotors. Spent gases roar through buff Flowmaster mufflers. And all that incredible hardware rolls on polished Budnik Cannons, which spin 205/40R17 Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals in front of 245/40R20 Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals.
INTERIOR
Inside this clean coupe, you'll find a supple tan interior that mixes soft ultraleather hides with stylish Ostrich inserts. Modern bucket seats provide plenty of room for two. At the sides of those thrones, sculpted door panels hang tasteful hardware in front of power-operated windows. Below those panels, plush carpet floats color-keyed mats between aftermarket foot pedals and a custom consolette that's finished with stainless cupholders. Opposite that rug, a small mirror reflects a tight headliner. At the front of the car, a color-keyed dash centers classy VDO telemetry above Vintage Air climate control and an MP3-compatible Sony CD player. The driver commands the road through a polished steering wheel, which spins an Ostrich rim around a tilting column. And the passengers stow their cargo in a small, custom-upholstered trunk.
