It is powered by a 302 HO 4 bbl. backed by a Borg Warner T5 5 speed manual transmission. It has A/C (not hooked up), rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, X frame like the later mustangs, removable port hole hard top, tach, clock, defroster, power steering, tilt wheel, tinted glass all the percs. This car runs and drives like a late model car, handles great, more power than you need (it flies), and everything works perfectly except for the heater fan and A/C. Even the clock keeps perfect time. NOW…
Don’t be shocked at its low miles and killer drive train. This car is one of 200 ever built by Shay/Camelot Motors. If you haven’t heard of them, there is a ton of history and articles that you can read if you google Shay reproductions. These were factory built cars commissioned by The Ford Motor Company as a promo/display piece for their dealerships, never meant to be sold to the public. They had Ford vin #’s and carried a Ford warranty so in brief, these are not kit cars, they are factory built under Fords approval and they used Ford drive trains. It is a fiberglass bodied reproduction. This car still has its factory Vin tag which decodes to a 1984 Ford but that is all I can get decoding it. There are only approx. 100 of these left so this car is actually very rare.
These cars were built from 1981 – 1984 and got better as they produced them so this one has the up-grades which include defroster, heavier "X" frame, heavy suspension with V8 and heavy charging system with A/Cand a few other things I can’t re-call at this moment. It is very light weight. Most of these came with the 4 cyl. Pinto engines but this one has the optional 302. I have a lot of paperwork and history that comes with this car. Long story short. This car was found stored in Texas in 1998 where it had been sitting for years. Having no title for this garage find, it was re-vined and re titled as a 1998 Assembled Convertible in Texas, although as I said the original Vin tag is there. I don’t know much about these but this car runs awesome, handles like a 80’s Mustang and has tons of power and stops on a dime.
Here’s your chance to get into a 55 Baby Bird that’s great to drive, has more power than a originaland at afraction of the cost of a real steel Bird. There’s another perc, no rust ever. Fiberglass. This car only has 9389 miles on it.
