1992 Ford Aerostar Sport Additional Info:
I am the second owner of this vehicle. I bought it from the estate of the original owner in January of 2002 at which time it had 81000 miles. The original owner was a snow bird so had never driven the vehicle in a Wisconsin winter. Neither have I. I rebuilt the transmission in June of 2006 at 117600 miles. Since then I have driven it for vacations all over. The longest trips were to Idaho, Oklahoma, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Conn., and Memphis. It has always performed well. The van has the larger 4.0 L V-6 and according to the on board computer has a combined ave mpg of 19. This is my 3rd Aerostar and I found the the 3L V-6 just didn't have enough power to pull even a light trailer well. The van has a class 3 hitch that I used for towing light weight boats (total weight 1500 lbs or less) and a cargo rack. Within the past year there has been a complete tune up, a new trans cooler, a new starter, new front springs, front shocks, and front ball joints. The only reason for selling now is that I am approaching retirement and the wife wants to travel pulling a large travel trailer which this will not do. I have found an nice E-150 with the factory tow package so this one must go. Now for the downside issues. The air bag light flashes because the contacts for it have some corrosion. There is a little rust starting on the drivers side in front of the rear wheel well. There is a small exterior leak in the head gasket. It has been there since I bought the vehicle. It does not leak too badly so I add a little antifreeze as necessary and every couple of years put a new treatment of head gasket stop leak in the cooling system. It has never been bad enough to do anything more with it. I will include 2 Blizzak winter tires mounted on matching wheels. They were off of my 2nd Aerostar and I keep them for those times when I was taking it off road on the prairie see Ok, Wy, and Dakoka above.
