1985 LX Mustang Convertible, FOX body [VIN # 1FABP27M4FF209519]. RED, 302 V8, 5-speed manual & clutch (rebuilt) {2.07 positraction differential}, Weighs ONLY 2945 lbs. Measured 26 MPG @ 75 MPH repeatedly.
Restoration interrupted. Great choice to rebuild and race (engine starts & runs but will not idle @ 600 RPM because - the rear main bearing is worn and over heats). Engine needs crankshaft bearings. Name of car: SPIKE.
Perfect for restoration. You must rebuild or supply a new engine (recommend ATK HP06C V8-Ford 302 300HP or 365 HP). In October, I spent $1200 onHolly Carburetor (#4180) fromSummitracing and installation. Sounds great with dual straight exhaust. Alloy wheels, Dunlop SP Sport 5000, 225/60R-15 95H tires (9/32 front-6/32 rear), recent battery, starter, brakes, radiator, water pump. Recent: JVC –KDR950BT Pandora stereo with remote control.
Top: Exquisite, custom made convertible top with Twillfast® II 100% Acrylic Twill Weave Cloth laminated to Polyester/Cotton Blend Dobby Backing (# 2355). Top cost $3400 with new gaskets and rebuilt hydraulic pumps. Convertible Top and windshield gaskets replaced. Does not leak in hard rain. Door gaskets replaced. Drivers door gasket needs resetting-its too tight.
Nice Grey Vinyl Bucket seats. Drivers seat needs re-stitching.
Body report. Never wrecked. Never driven in winter salt on road. See slight damaged driver’s rear bumper (moulding intact). Superficial rust easily sanded with 80 grit at: drivers door handle and passenger door. Front driver’s fender near tire has 1 inch rust spot that requires re-construction. About to strip car to primer & repaint car with Corvette Magnetic Red.
Write me with any questions. I bought this car for my son in 2002 from the brother of the ORIGINAL owner. My son was not nuts about car- so I kept SPIKE. Great road car. Drove SPIKE from NYC to Mexico then directly to Toronto. Car loves 90 MPH- smooth as glass. Must be doing 70 mph to shift into 5th gear!! I also own a JAG convertible but this is MORE FUN to drive. Rare car needs rare owner. I am sorry to part with it.Selling car because have too many unfinished projects. Can ship to most states by carrier for $600-$900. Will assist in shipping cross-county.
