This 1957 Ford Fairlane Sunliner Convertible originally a cream color came from the Tucson area of Arizona where it was owned by elderly man that had severalof these early fairlanes in his yard. It was purchased from him by a local man in Mesawho had the car completely disassembled and started a restoration . He had the car sandblasted from the cowl back and did some minor rust repair on it using from what I can tell factory sheet metal from a donor car. I bought it 3 years ago as stalled project that I had intentions of finishing because it was very solid foundation with a lot of the hard work done already on it. All I have done to the car is seal up the sand blasted metal withwhite bare metal primer and reassemble it so it is a more complete car.
The car is very complete with the original 292 Y-block V8 and Ford o Matic transmission. All the roof bows, hydraulics, chrome latchesand cables are present however there is some rust in the top header bow. It has front and back seats with arm rests that are rusty but very hard to find, the door glass is there along with the quarter window glass too, much of the hard to find trim is included with the car. It comes with front door panels and some new felt channels and window rubbers. The doors fit really nicely with good gaps all the way around and the shut tightly. There areonly parts missing that I can telllike some engine pieces like exhaust manifolds and generator accessories, I don't see the seat racks for the front seat either but other than that it is very complete but by no means am I anexpert so look at the pictures because it shows everything included nothing more or less.
Rust- The inner rockers are solid and the only rust is few small holes on the driver side that showed up after sand blasting, I small section behind the driver side back wheel has been replaced with a donor patch panel, the floors appear to be original because they have some minor rust near the gas pedal area and on passenger side in a perfect square shape so I assume it was moisture under the factory tar like insulation they used in the 1950's, the transmission tunnel has been replaced because I can see the weld lines but I have idea why. The trunk floor is perfect and may have been replaced but I am not sure. The brace that goes under the back seat was removed and blasted and it is included in the pictures below.
1950's convertibles are becoming very valuable and prices continue to climb. This one is a good base for a very desirable 1957 Ford Sunliner and if you want a solid one with the hard stuff done this is the car for you!
