SUMMARY
2,195-mile survivorThe Mustang has always been one of those cars that does a great job of representing all things to all people. From 6-cylinder 'secretary specials' to the newest, fire-breathing GT350R, enthusiasts have always been able to build pretty much any platform they wanted through either a factory order form or an aftermarket phone number. That said; the most impressive Mustangs are typically those that channel a horse with some kind of snake. And for roughly 50 years, various forms of snake-branded ponies have built a reputation for being some the hottest performance cars the market has ever seen. 1 of only 5,009 Mustang Cobra coupes built for the 1994 model year, and sporting only 2,195 original miles, this factory-serpentinized pony possesses a level of polish most aftermarket entities simply couldn't achieve. And, if you're looking for a pristine Mustang to preserve or enjoy, it's a whole lot of potential for not a lot of investment!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Thanks to exceptionally low mileage and impeccable maintenance, this factory-fresh Cobra is essentially brand new in every way. Back in '94, the guys at Ford's Dearborn facility must've known people spending almost $25K on a new sports car expected a different level of fit and finish; and with this top-of-the-line coupe, they certainly delivered. There's absolutely nothing on the car's showroom stock body that could be considered anything more than shelf wear. Its glossy Rio Red 2-stage is smooth enough to appear fresh out of the paint shop. Its Cobra-spec trim is so straight you'd think it's interwoven behind the body's hard parts. And overall, this Ford, backed by a clean, 3-owner CARFAX, is a super slick speed machine that mixes timeless curb appeal with a premium sense of drivability!
ENGINE
The Mustang has long been the champion of budget performance, and much of that has to do with the rock-solid base engines Ford shoves between the car's fenders. Pop the hood on this Cobra and you'll find a low-mileage example of the venerable 5.0 liter Windsor V8. While the '5-Oh' made its first appearance as a 289 way back in 1963, it continuously progressed over the next 40 years to become a choice ally for all kinds of performance fans on the highway, drag strip and road course. For the 1994 model year, the mill's Cobra-exclusive High Output variation utilized an aluminum GT-40 intake, roller rockers, iron GT-40 heads, an aggressive cam profile and upgraded fuel and exhaust paths to create an unbeatable combination of smooth cruising and spirited performance. As you would expect, this showroom-fresh coupe's clean engine remains bone stock, but with 240 horsepower and 285 lb./ft. of torque, 'stock' isn't such a bad place to be. The car starts on the first try, idles well and retains all the good manners installed at Ford's Dearborn factory. And, featuring mere break-in miles, the engine is ripe for modification or a few more decades of casual cruising the choice is yours!
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Corral this pony on a lift and you'll find a well-preserved undercarriage that's every bit as solid as the car's slick profile. At the center of the floors, a beefy Borg Warner 5-speed offers full access to the 5-Oh's power while a stock, 8.8-inch rear end throws that power though original, 3.08 gears. Handling and overall refinement were a central focus for SVT-tuned SN95s, and that attention to detail shows in items like beefy sway bars, performance-tuned struts, special shocks and lightly massaged springs. Naturally, that suspension remains in its stock configuration, taking well to curves thanks to power rack-and-pinion steering and an optional anti-lock brake system, which controls power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes. And at the corners, machined, 17-inch wheels, wrapped in 255/45ZR17 Goodyear Eagle GS-Cs, cap off the car's aggressive looks.
INTERIOR
Inside this Mustang you'll find a comfortable and stylish cockpit that's ready for both short stoplight sprints and long road trips. At the center of the car, leather-lined, high-back buckets fit like a glove. Inside the dash, familiar white-faced gauges ride behind sculpted 2-tone trim that's free of the bubbling and heat cracks that typically manifest under sharply angled windshields. Below that dash, a leather-wrapped shifter looks perfect between a slim console and factory-spec audio equipment. Beneath that console, like-new carpet, which is protected by "COBRA" branded floor mats, remains tight and fade-free. At the edges of that carpet, tapered door panels frame power mirrors, power windows, power door locks and factory MACH speakers. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel spins buttons for modern cruise control around a tilting column. Behind the cockpit, a factory-finished trunk features ample storage space. And naturally, all the amenities and conveniences you've come to expect in a modern classic are present and accounted for, including climate control, individual courtesy lamps and power seat adjustment.
