The Ford Four Door convertible debuted in 1937 and only ran for a total of 3 model years. This automobile is one of 3561 produced that year of a total production run of 532,152 units. It is believed only 90 unmolested examples known to exist. 1939 was also the year that ford introduced Lockheed Hydraulic brake, a great improvement of previous mechanical brake system.
This is an all steel rust free car, finished in The favored Desert Sand and new coordinated top.
It has new wide whitewall " Silvertown " tires and correct artillery wheels along with restored hubcaps and beauty rings. The running boards are new as are the running board covers. All bumpers and guards are also new. Other stainless trim is either new or refinished as new. It even had the original ignition key and an almost perfect owners manual.
The optional 85 H.P. Flathead V8 is highly detailed as is the engine compartment. It has new dual exhaust, belts and hose, and the carburetor was recently rebuilt as well. It starts instantly, cold or hot or after a period of non use, without the use of the choke. It idles beautifully and literally runs like a sewing machin, (I believe that is where that phrase originated). All the wheelcylinders and bearings are new. It stops straight and true, much better than you would expect from a new (old) braking design.
It has a three speed transmission that shifts nicely and a light clutch that operates as it should .
The underside is clean as the rest of the car and is detailed as just well .
The interior is nicely finished in the correct material . The dash and door rails are finished with faux woodgraining and is as good a finish I have ever seen. Although It is equipped with a radi, it is uninstalled needing restoration. I would install a discreet modern unit.
This car is a wonderful experience to drive and attracts attention wherever it goes. It shows well and often receives awards at car shows .
It is a great investment that is sure to appreciate. If you check NADA this would be a strong # 2 car approaching #1 by their description. Given tha, it has a NADA value of $55,000 to $90,000. I have allowed a low reserve price and encourage aggressive bidding. I have other automobiles and like to look for " new old " cars to enjoy. It's time to let this one go and move into something else. I know the new owner will enjoy it as I have.
