1959 Ford Galaxie Fairlane 500 - Sunliner Additional Info:
The Ford Galaxie was first introduced in 1959. Being from the first year it has two model names on the car: Galaxie, and Fairlane 500, which was changed in later years to Galaxie 500 or just Galaxie. Being a convertible it also goes by the model name Sunliner. This car was built at the Chester, Pennsylvania plant and finished on June 12, 1959. It has the original paint scheme, Colonial White over Torch Red and the interior is an earlier restoration of the original style and colors.
The car starts and runs fine. I bought the car over two years ago from a family that had it for close to 30 years. It had an earlier restoration done with new paint, new interior, and new convertible top. I put on new brakes, rebuilt front end, shocks, gas tank, fuel pump and a restored clock. The original radio works as do the lights, speedometer, fuel and temperature gauges. Glass is good, no cracks or breaks. Original Sunliner hubcaps
The motor for raising and lowering the convertible top runs, but I haven't put fluid in to check out the hydraulics. I have been manually raising and lowering the top. Some of the chrome is pitted but is all original. Carburetor could use adjusting but runs fine. There is an older indentation under the rear left bumper, driver's side, that must have been there when it was painted as it blends in fine. Interior shows minor wear and tear. Wiring could use a re-do. I had the clock rebuilt, but have been unable to wire it properly to check it out. Some of the wiring looks old (it is) and drying out. I also have chrome rear fender skirts that are not currently on the vehicle.
We are downsizing and need to move this fun car to someone else. We have had a great time taking it to local car shows and cruise-ins and just driving around town with the top down.
