Real deal 1966 Shelby GT 350. Numbers matching car. In the registry. Ford Vin stamped in THREE places in the engine bay sheet metal. Original Shelby stamping next to the right hand shock turret. Originally sold in North Carolina. In storage there from 1979. I bought the car 4 years ago for a friend and brought it back to life.
I have recent correspondence with the SAAC registrar for the 65/66 Shelby GT 350's and will pass that along to seriously interested parties. The car has never left the country and was in North Carolina until purchased by a Boston buyerin approximately 2010.
When purchased the car was largely original, ut had rust damage to the heater/vent cavity (common Mustang problem) as well as rust damage to the left rear quarter panel above the wheelarch and below the brake cooling intake vent. There was also some damage to the trunk drop off panels and tail light panel.. All of which are typical problems for Mustangs of this vintage.
The car retains all of its Shelby specific parts. The engine is numbers matching (photo attached). The original, mall letter, intake manifold and Holley carb, long with theopen letter valve covers and alloy oil pan are all present.
The entire braking system has been rebuilt. All new brake lines (hard and flex) as well as new master cylinder, ebuilt prop valve and calipers (stainless pistons), ew rear wheel cylinders and original rear brake drums are still with the car.
The suspension has been rebuilt as well. The original Shelby Idler has been rebuilt and all of the wearing bushings have been renewed. Koni shocks at all four corners as original and the limit straps are intact at the rear axle. The upper ball joints are new as are the lower control arms.New rear springs and all of the steering end links are new as well.
Being an early 1966 car, his car has the over-ride traction bars. These have new bushings and retain their original (and very rare) rubber boots.
The following repairs have been made to the shell; entire LH rear quarter panel and outer half of the LH rear wheelarch, ew trunk drop off panels (both sides), ew tail light panel, ew trunk lid, ection of floor immediately behind the LH (driver's ) seat. All other sheet metal is original to the car.
When I purchased the car it had NEVER been apart.
All of the interior soft parts are new. I had no choice. There was significant mold and mildew damage. The seats have been completely rebuilt, eing bead blasted and then built up wit the proper pads and burlap as original. All of the interior plastic parts are original to the car with the exception of the surrounds for the rear qtr windows which were warped and cracked. (these have been saved). The original, helby supplied, eat belts are still in the car.
All of the glass is original and date coded to the car. All of the chrome and stainless is also original to the car with the exception of the bumpers which were repros when it arrived.
The car sits on its original Shelby 10 spoke wheels and there is another in the trunk for the spare. These are the original wheels supplied with the car as shown on the purchase order. the special wrench for the lug nuts is stowed under the spare as original.
