"To register a car in the UK it first needs to have a British MOT Certificate which testifies to its roadworthiness. You have to also notify the HM Revenue & Customs that the car has entered the UK on a NOVA Submission – this can be found on the website: online.hmrc.gov.uk website. Once the NOVA has been submitted you must insure the car to be driven on British Roads. If the Fiat still has the Italian plates on it, you can use the chassis number to register it for insurance. This will cover the use of the car to drive it to a garage to have the MOT test done. Then you can book an MOT with a local garage.Once the vehicle has passed its MOT, you will be given a certificate of safety. Then you need to complete a V55/5 form which is used to tax the car. For cars of this age, there is normally no charge, but you still have to inform the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle LicenSing Agency) and mark it down as HISTORIC in the Tax Class. This will also register the car for the first time in the UK. You will be given a British Registration Plate that is suitable for the year of the vehicle. Then the car will be considered available to drive."
