1979 Fiat 124 Spider Additional Info:
1979 Fiat Spider 2000 for sale. It’s a blast to drive and gets comments from people all the time. Strong engine, smooth shifting transmission, tight steering. Previous owner removed the catalytic converter and added the single-plane intake. This is an important upgrade and results in a much faster car with considerable torque vs the factory original performance. (e-check is not needed due to the car being older than 25 years old) Coupled with the 32/26 carb, this car is very lively and more than keeps up with modern traffic. Also sounds really nice with the all-Ansa exhaust.
My son and I fixed it up quite nicely over the past three years and am selling it only because it is time to explore another classic car (Alfas and Saabs are on my radar). If I had the garage space, I would keep it...
No rust on body, freshly repainted in white (original color was also white)Some surface rust on bottom on linkages, etc.
2.0 liter carburated engine, 5 speed manual transmission
Replaced in the last 3 years (since I owned it). Most of this was done in year 1 of ownership. Since then it's been mostly just enjoyed and not needing much repairs at all:
-All springs and (oil filled) shocks
-Front control arms
-Steering linkages
-top of engine rebuilt: new seals, valves, springs and head gasket
-timing belt
-Thermostat, radiator, all coolant/heater hoses
-New electric-choke 32/26 DFEV carb
-Relays added for lights and all ignition switch circuits
-ignition wires, ignition coil and module
-New mufflers (2 regular Ansa, not sport muffler, but it sounds awesome)
-New Interstate battery
-bluetooth enabled stereo with AUX and USB connections
-roll bar (can be removed: attached with 8 bolts). best part of roll bar is being able to snap in a wind deflector screen which blocks 90% of breeze and allows for top-down driving comfortably down to 30 F (the great heater helps)
-Rear seat cushion is removed when I installed the roll bar, and the cushion will come with the car.
-rear stabilizer bar (much improved handling in tight turns)
-added trunk lighting (practical for grocery trips)
-Headlights upgraded to H4 bulbs (much brighter than original sealed beam)
-brake pads and brake lines
-flex joint, u-joints and the driveshaft bearing
The bad:
-the vinyl top is relatively new but it does have a bit of a tear on the passenger side in the back.
-the car is not super waterproof: it can be driven in the rain, but not for hours and should NOT be parked outside when rain is expected
-it is a 40+ year old Italian mass-market car so it does have some rattles when driven over potholes
-the car does leak some (little) oil. I have a flattened-out corrugated box under it to collect the drips and replace it every 6-9 months
