1969 Fiat Other Additional Info:
Vintage 1969 Fiat 600 Coupe. Made in Italy during the last year of production. 2.7 million Fiat 600 cars were produced in Italy at the Mirafiori plant. The Fiat 600 sold in larger numbers than the Fiat 500 because, among other things, it had a bigger powerplant, more room and was more serviceable at highway speeds. This vehicle was purchased in Aachen, Germany in 2000 from a German Fiat enthusiast who said he was the second owner of the vehicle. The car was partially restored by the second owner sometime in the 1990s (i.e., possibly fresh exterior paint and new rubber around the front and rear windows, new seat or recovered seats, etc.). This vehicle has always been garaged since its purchase. The odometer reads 21000 km. The buyer should assume the mileage is unknown, however. Less than 2,000 km have been put on the car since the year 2000. Several months ago the engine was completely gone through and totally rebuilt by Shade Tree Enginetrics of Nevada, Texas (probably the premier vintage Fiat engine rebuilder in the USA). While an engine rebuild was not required, it was done to ensure this car would be in good running condition for its next 50 years of life (and while parts are still readily available). The engine rebuild was complete and extensive, and included boiling of the block, resurfacing and bead blasting of the head, new pistons, new valves and springs, new water pump, new fuel pump and filter, new clutch, new pressure plate, new engine seals, new hoses, new points and condenser, new distributor cap and rotor, and other new parts. Some old parts were saved (e.g, the pistons and water pump). The crankshaft, rods, pistons and flywheel were balanced and coated for good measure. The radiator was cored, boiled and pressure tested. A car jacket, two sets of floor mats, a spare set of wheels and tires, repair and other manuals, and many spare parts (including a new carburetor and new coil) are included (see photos). Since the engine rebuild, approximately 200 miles have been put on the car, and it runs perfectly. All brake lines have recently been bled, and the transmission fluid changed. A new transmission rear seal and bearing was installed when the engine was reinstalled. There are a few small details remaining for the new owner to take care of: One of the seals for the rear axle appears to have a tiny leak of transmission fluid, and one of the front wing window latches needs to be re-glued. There is no rust anywhere on the body that I can find (see photos). A lot of money, time and love have been spent on this car, and it is undoubtedly one of the finer examples of a Fiat 600 in the USA. No warranty of any kind is provided with this vehicle -- it is being sold strictly "as is."
