1988 Agostini Ferrari Testarossa Junior – 1 of Only 3 Known – Harrods
Offered for sale is an exceptionally rare 1988 Agostini Ferrari Testarossa Junior, manufactured in Italy and identified by its original Agostini Auto identification plate as:
Model: Testarossa
Serial Number: 060
Year: 1988
Manufacturer: Agostini Auto – Italy
Exterior: Rosso Corsa Red
Interior: Cream
One of Only Three
The Agostini Testarossa is believed to be one of only three examples of this extraordinary miniature Ferrari known to have been sold.
In 1987, Italian manufacturer Agostini was authorized to produce this highly detailed miniature version of Ferrari’s legendary Testarossa. The cars were offered through Harrods of London at an astonishing reported original price of £34,680—an extraordinary sum in the late 1980s and reflective of the engineering and craftsmanship involved.
This was never an ordinary children’s toy or pedal car. The Agostini Testarossa was constructed as a fully functional miniature automobile.
Specifications and Features
The remarkable engineering includes:
* Tubular-frame chassis
* Fiberglass composite Testarossa body
* Briggs & Stratton electric-start gasoline engine
* Variomatic belt-drive transmission
* Forward and reverse gears
* Differential rear axle
* Fully adjustable independent wishbone suspension
* Rose-jointed suspension components
* Hydraulic disc brakes
* Rack-and-pinion steering
* Cast-alloy road wheels
*
* 12-volt electrical system
* Fully functional pop-up headlights
* High and low-beam lighting
* Working gauges and electrical equipment
* Opening doors, front compartment and rear engine compartment
* Functional catches and hardware
* Cream upholstered interior
Looking beneath the bodywork reveals just how unusual this automobile is. The tubular chassis, independent suspension, steering, braking system, drivetrain and electrical components demonstrate that Agostini approached the project as a miniature motorcar rather than a conventional toy.
Extraordinary Ferrari History
The Ferrari Testarossa was one of the defining exotic automobiles of the 1980s, and Agostini reproduced its unmistakable appearance in remarkable detail—from the dramatic side strakes and wide rear bodywork to the alloy wheels and famous pop-up headlights.
Published history concerning these cars reports that only three examples were sold. One reportedly went to the Middle East, another to Essex, England, while the whereabouts of the third subsequently became unknown.
The Testarossa offered here is NOT the example that has previously been publicized and offered for sale in England. This is a separate Agostini Testarossa carrying its own Agostini factory identification plate: Serial No. 060, dated 1988.
The previously publicized example underwent restoration and was later offered for sale at £75,000, illustrating the extraordinary rarity and collector interest surrounding these automobiles. That figure was an advertised asking price and is mentioned only as historical market information, not as a documented completed sale.
An Exceptional Collector Opportunity
Opportunities to acquire an Agostini Testarossa are virtually nonexistent.
This is not a modern reproduction, kit car or mass-produced children’s Ferrari. It is an original 1988 Agostini Auto Testarossa, manufactured in Italy during the Testarossa era and representing an extraordinary intersection of Ferrari history, Italian craftsmanship and miniature automotive engineering.
With only three known examples, this would make a spectacular centerpiece for a serious Ferrari collection, private automotive museum, Ferrari dealership display, automotive gallery or significant collection of Ferrari memorabilia.
The car’s original Agostini identification plate is clearly shown in the photographs and reads:
AGOSTINI AUTO – ITALY
MODEL: TESTAROSSA
SERIES NUMBER: 060
YEAR: 1988
Its rarity, engineering and extraordinary original cost place the Agostini Testarossa in an entirely different category from conventional children’s cars and modern Ferrari replicas.
