The targa topped Ferrari 308 GTS was introduced in 1977 at the Frankfurt Auto Show and was made famous by the popular television series Magnum, P.I. The 308's body was designed by Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti, who had been responsible for some of Ferrari's most celebrated shapes to date such as the Daytona, the Dino and the Berlinetta Boxer. The 308 used elements of these shapes to create something very much in contrast with the angular GT4. GTS models featured a... removable roof panel with grained satin black finish, which could be stowed in a vinyl cover behind the seats when not in use. The 308 had a tube frame with separate body. The 308 GTB/GTS and GT4 were mechanically similar, and also shared much with the original Dino. Both 308's sit on the same tube platform. The engine was a V8 of a 90 degree configuration. All models used a fully synchromesh 5-speed manual and a clutch-type limited slip differential. Suspension was all-independent, comprising double wishbones, coaxial coil springs and hydraulic dampers, and anti-roll bars on both axles; four wheel vented disc brakes were also fitted. This iconic car is sure to turn heads everywhere it goes! This 1978 308 GTS was owned by a personal friend of Enzo Ferrari. Included with the car is a book that documents in great detail the building of the car at the Ferrari factory in Milan. The original owner, Enzo Ferrari’s friend did Enzo a personal favor by housing his relative in America. Enzo thanked him by offering to build the car he wanted. The owner decided on a special order white seats, headliner and roof. No other 1978 308 GTS in the world was built with this coloration. Also included with the car are personal correspondences between Enzo, the original owner of the car and Ferrari executive’s as he was designing the car and having it flown over to the United States from Italy. There are pictures of it being flown over and its arrival here at Kennedy airport in 1978.With over 28 years in business, Black Horse Garage’s experienced and knowledgeable staff can help you find the best cars; whatever your budget.
