1979 Ferrari 308 Additional Info:
The GT4 was a groundbreaking model for Ferrari in several ways: it was the first production Ferrari to feature the mid-engined V8 layout and was the first production Ferrari withBertone(rather thanPininfarina) designed bodywork andpenned by Marcello Gandini. From the cockpit the driver sees only the road. It has perfect 360 degree visibility, no blind spots, upright and comfortable seating position, a real trunk, a back seat for soft luggage, and very easy engine access. Enzo Ferrari himself took a major role in its design, even having a mock-up made where he could sit in the car to test different steering, pedals and cockpit seating positioning.
The chassis has atubularspaceframebased on the Dino 246, stretchedto make room for the second row of seats. The suspension is fully independent, withdouble wishbones,anti-roll bars, coaxial telescopicshock absorbersandcoil springson both axles. Niki Lauda helped set up the chassis.
This car, 1979, is the last year of the mid-engine Dino 308's produced which were badged as Ferrari after 1976. It has the rare factory sunroof, air conditioning, which blows cold, power windows and pop-up headlights. Two long term owners with the last owner having the car for over 20 years with less than 55,000 original miles. This car is in it's original black color with bone leather interior and black Wilton wool carpets. The interior is in immaculate like new condition. It has an upgraded Nardi wood steering wheel but the original steering wheel comes with the car. It has a period correct Pioneer cassette stereo system with remote.
This car, which was always garaged, has the original tool roll, jack and accessories as well as all the books, brochures and service records dating back to the early 80's. Also comes with a quick release trickle charger installed at the battery and spare tire. Though the smog pump is not connected to the car it is included with its mounting brackets.
It recently completed a full $7,000 + engine service which included, rebuilding the carburetors, new cam belts, new water pump, rebuilt chain tensioners, valve adjustment, spark plugs, engine oil and filter change, gear oil change, new seals as well as new sway bar bushings, fuel lines, breather hoses and misc. service items like distributors etc. Brakes and tires are good as well.
