1958 Edsel ROUNDUP A-Title 1 Owner Additional Info:
From the Hills of Pennsylvania. This Auction is for a 1-owner 1958 Edsel Roundup Station Wagon V-8 361 (E400) 3 speed manual on the tree, with radio delete plate. with 52,026 Original miles!! It is an original unrestored car. It has been garage kept its entire life and it shows. The Edsel Roundup 2 door wagon model was produced one year only. There were only 963 ever made for 1958 and it was never produced again. Only a handful still exist as of today and most of those are in various states of deterioration. To compare, there are fewer Roundups in existence than there are Tucker automobiles. This car may be the most original documented 1958 Edsel Roundup still in existence. This car was purchased new on September 17, 1957 during the first weeks of the Edsel debut by Mr Benjamen Toy at the R.J. Edsel Dealership in Philadelphia Pa. Mr Toy only worked a few miles from where he lived. It was used as there second car from new and only came out of the garage when needed. From the mid 1960s until 1973 it was rarely used and only taken out to be serviced and inspected and then parked back in the garage. The front seat backs still have clear vinyl seat covers on them that Mr. Toy put on from new. Everything on the car is like it came out of a sealed time capsule. The glass looks crisp and clear. Even the Ford Edsel script is still on the the glass (see Pic) The original door and window seals are original and look amazing. The seats are original with no tears or torn seams. The Roundup Script on the fenders looks like new. The car is still rolling on its last set of bias ply tire from the early 1960s and they are in excellent condition. The color of the car is Emerald Red and Snow White 2 tone. Because the car spent most of its entire life stored and never being left to the elements it has its original factory paint and it still looks amazing. The color is Emerald red with Snow White top 2 tone. Along with the car is its original (A) title, warranty paper work and original signed Invoice Order form from 1957. The grease pen paint code (EE) from the factory it still showing on the fire wall. The hand written factory production assembly line number is #119 and is also still visible on the fire wall.(see pic). On the passenger door is the original Factory Final quality Inspection Stamp in yellow. In the 1970s Mr. Toy was ready to part with the car to a mechanic (John) who loved the car and serviced it through the years at the Ford dealership. The mechanic took the car home and parked it right back in another well insulated garage that was attached to his heated house, covered it with blankets and quilts and there it remained untouched for another 43 years. This 1958 Edsel Roundup has remained unknown, undisturbed, untouched, for a span through 5 decades. Only a handful of close friends and family knew about it. The cars had 51,700 miles on it when it last had its last annual inspection back on April 28, 1973. The inspection sticker looks like the day it was put on. Currently it has only 326 miles on it since that inspection in 73. Things to note. There is some very minor paint erosion (it does not show up in pictures) on the very bottom of the front fenders behind the front wheels and also the driver side bottom of the rear fender. It is most likely from wheel spray many years ago. There is a small spot on top of the gauge cluster that has some flaking, otherwise the dash immaculate with brilliant chrome. The top windshield molding is in the car, it came loose when the car was fairly new and was put aside so it would not get lost or damaged (also part of the Edsel PR legend) . The plastic E in the middle of the Edsel hood emblem blew out when the car was new. This was a common part of the Edsel legacy that led to a PR crisis for the Company back then and part of the Edsel legend now. Please Note This is a Historic antique vehicle. Due to its age it is being sold As-Is Where-Is, It may show signs of typical wear, tear, fade, haze, chip, ding, crack, or other imperfections and or may require maintenance, repair, replacement or service of any and all components. The hood ornament itself has excellent chrome with absolutely no pitting or peeling and still looks new. All the original wiring is still in place and just as it was the day it left the factory.(see under dash photo). Even the original clock works. The inner fender wells are intact with there original paint with all the clips and hardware where they belong. The battery was removed when the car was stored, hence the battery tray has no signs of corrosion and still has its original paint. The floor pans look crisp and clean and still show the factory stampings. The light lenses are crisp and clear. The chrome is still mirror like and reflective and shows only the most minor imperfections. The car has the original top front fender gaskets which I seldom ever seen survive intact on other Edsels. There are oil change sticker from through the years that are still in the door. One is so old it has a 5 digit phone number. The car is being sold with bill of sale so as to preserve its provenance and documents history. I have driven the approx 120 miles over several test drives. It is very quiet. This is the last time I will drive it. The car really belongs in a museum. The engine is rated at just over 300 H.P. and you can feel it. It was impressive for its time even by todays standards. It has incredible power. There is also a brand new correct Ford 12 volt battery bought at the dealership decades ago that has never been installed. The battery was dry stored and still has its tags. This rare Edsel and its history is simply remarkable. You could spend thousands on a rough version of a car like this if you were even lucky enough to find one, then spend 20 to 30 thousand on restoration work in a shop before it even gets to primer, and then thousands more to have the engine rebuilt and buy missing hard to find odd and end parts, all before even getting to paint. But you still would not have an original car. If you ever had to restore one then you know what I,m talking about. Or you could buy this one for thousand less and have a very rare original documented car with a known history. If you ever wanted a car like this, here is one you can afford. You hear stories about cars like this but rarely ever come across one. I know in my lifetime I will never see another one like this let alone find one.
