1959 Edsel Corsair Additional Info:
Super rare 1959 Edsel Corsair 2 door hardtop.
Only 2400 made, the Corsair was the top of the line Edsel for '59.
This car was garage kept by one Pennsylvania family from 1967 until 2012 when I bought it. It was used very little until 1985, and then stored and not driven at all until I got it. At that time it had 58,600 miles. It currently has 59,175 true original miles.
This one has the biggest engine available - the 361 V8, numbers matching, professionally rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago,and painted the correct gloss black with white valve covers and air cleaner. Looks just as it did in 1959.
The best Transmission -3 speed, professionally rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago. Shifts perfect.Power steering and power brakes - Power steering pump and Bendix Brake Booster professionally rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago.
It rides and drives like a much newer car!
Since 2012, It has had a complete mechanical restoration, in addition to the above, it has all new brake lines, new brakes front and rear, all new fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel pump and sending unit, gas gauge works. Carb rebuilt. New custom stainless dual exhaust - comes out behind the rear wheels like stock, but was originally single exhaust. Looks stock but sounds a bit better.
All new fluids, filters etc.
While the engine was out, the engine bay was cleaned and painted correctly, gloss black firewall with flat black inner fenders. Original radiator was re-cored.
All 5 steel wheels professionally refinished, hubcaps restored and 4 New Coker White walls installed. Old original whitewall mounted as spare. The Interior has the original headliner and door panels, the carpet was replaced with correct carpet with Edsel heel pad, and the seats were redone with correct material from SMS Fabrics and sewn VERY close to original. New trunk mat and side panels installed.
Seat belts added for safety. Bluetooth audio unit hidden in dash with new speakers in factory holes.Sounds great and nothing was cut to install. Paint looks very, very nice but not perfect. Floors are original and completely solid, POR15 treated when carpet was out. Has no rust anywhere except the extreme edges of the inside trunk floor. Not at all visible from out side the car.
The vacuum lines for the wipers and the heater controls were not reinstalled after the rebuild, and so those 2 items do not work. Everything else does.
It is completely sorted and ready to go. I have put about 500 miles on it in the last 18 months, and would drive it anywhere!
Clean Maryland title.
