When the new Dodge was released in April 1949, a body style not seen in the U.S. for over a decade returned with the Wayfarer roadster. Considered a more affordable open-top car than a standard convertible, it was well received with 5,420 examples sold in its premier year, more than double the production of Dodge’s tradional convertibles. Being a true roadster meant no roll-up windows, so to protect the passengers from inclement weather panes framed in chrome could be slipped into mounting holes in the doors.
This roadster has been treated to a complete frame-on restoration about 10 years ago and has been used very sparingly since. Showing only 72,025 miles, which may be since new, it is finished both inside and out in a rich dark red-maroon. The seats are upholstered in a matching pleated vinyl covering with an off-white soft top that is in good mechanical and cosmetic condition.
It is a numbers matching car and a copy of the original build sheet obtained from the Chrysler Historical Collection is included. The only differences that I am aware of are that I added an NOS radio and clock.
The car runs and drives perfectly. It has the Dodge fluid drive, which in essence is a three speed manual transmission with a torque converter between the engine and transmission. You can drive it like a three speed manual or put it in high gear, let the clutch out, and then drive it like an automatic.
I encourage you to inspect the car and take it for a spin. I don’t believe you will be disappointed.
Payment by bank wire or cash is required and a non-refundable $1000 deposit via PayPal is required within 48 hours of the auction close
Please check my feedback for other cars I have sold and you will see that I deal honestly both as a buyer and seller.
Please note that Alabama does not issue titles for vehicles of this age so the car will be sold with a bill of sale and registration certificate. I have sold cars to other states (even California) and never had a problem.
Runs and drives perfectly. Numbers matching car. Copy of original build sheet included. Has fluid drive which can be driven like a std or automatic. No rust.
