1968 Dodge Coronet R/TBorn on 2-27-1968 at Los Angeles Plant
This Dodge Coronet R/T is a rare find in many ways and the documents I have including the story behind this car will be told for generations to come. Without the stripes (deleted on order) this car looks like a sleeper, but under the hood and on the way to the grocery store I am sure that the original owner surprised a few people. This car was going to be featured on Season 3 of Graveyard Carz because Mark Wormans attention to detail to restore to factory state but instead of going that route I decided to get it running and enjoy it while in my possession. The car spent its running life in a high desert climate and is very dry because of the care taken to protect it from the elements after it was parked. I have only repaired or touched what was needed to get it into the condition you see today, you might see some dust and dirt but its been garaged and out of the elements to maintain the original patina look.
This is a numbers matching all original honest car that was special ordered with some unique features including a stripe delete and a two-tone paint code (GT2) which to my knowledge and research is one of a kind. The car is virtually untouched other than the few upgrades I had to make to get it running which include a new fuel system, brakes, a few hoses and belts, exhaust and some new front end parts. The car runs and sounds great and it's like going back in time when you get behind the wheel. All body panels with original shipping numbers are in tact and the only rust repair that will be needed is in the trunk area and in the bottom of the rear quarter panels as far as I can detect.
The 440 is a numbers matching engine block (vin stamp and date stamp pic) along with correct date code that precedes the build date which are pictured below and match the original fender tag. The interior is all there but will need a full restoration and all original glass is in place but the windshield will need to be replaced. The numbers matching Carter AVS carb has been rebuilt and I had the original power steering pump rebuilt. I have picked up a few parts over some time to repair the damaged areas and I have all of the original parts that I have pulled off to replace. These items include original R/T tail lights and rear corners, a new front left 68 R/T fender, replacement grill, headlight trim parts and an original replacement front bumper with marker lights.
