1969 HEMI Coronet R/T Convertible

With the auctions over in Scottsdale and Kissimmee, the world saw what the monumental Mopar Muscle cars fetched, with Hemi Cuda Convertibles bringing over two million, a Hemi Challenger Convertible bringing over a million and a half and the 69 Coronet R/T Hemi 4-spd Convertible crossing the block at $625,000.

With that being said the only other Track-Pack car of the four built is now being offered up For Sale. So if you missed out on the bright green one for your high end collection or museum, here is your chance to purchase the other one for considerably less money.

This car was featured in the April 2016 issue of Mopar Collectors Guide Magazine. It was photographed at the 2015 MCACN Show in Chicago where well over 400 cars attended last November. Among those cars was the green 69 Coronet R/T Convertible that was sold at Mecum. That's correct, both cars were in the Donald E Stevens Convention Center at the same time being displayed along with the many E-Body Hemi Convertibles that showed up along with many other makes of incredible cars. Much to everyone's surpris, this bright turquoise metallic 69 Coronet R/T Convertible won well known Automotive artist David Snyder's coveted "Eye Candy Award" as his favorite car of the event. In fact Bob Ashton, the promoter of the MCACN Show was so impressed with the car, he is using it to promote this years event coming up in November 2016.

Of the 10 Coronet R/T Hemi Convertibles built there were six automatics and four, 4-spd cars. Of the four, this is the only documented all numbers matching one ! By that I’m talking about the Hemi block, 18 spline 4-spd, and Dana 60 rear end were all born in this car. With a production date of Wednesday Nov 6th 1968 (B06), it was the only one painted in Q5 Bright Turquoise Metallic, with a white convertible top and white Transverse Sport R/T tape stripe. This car has a striking appearance and has to be one of the best looking color combinations of that era to roll out of the St Louis Assembly Plant. The car was also coded for a Rallye Instrument Cluster with Tachometer and clock, Center Console, Premium Grade Trim with Belt Moldings, Simulated ¼ panel Air Scoops, and the N96 Ramcharger Hood.

Many of the parts used during the restoration were NOS pulled from their original Mopar boxes purchased in the mid 70’, such as the Grille, Headlight Bezels, Taillight Lenses, Rear Finish Panel, Rocker Moldings, Top Latches, Hood Scoop Bezels, and Hemi Emblems. All four headlights are correct General Electric 1969 vintage bulbs. The car was built with all date coded parts such as Tinted Glass from ECS, 3-Spd Wiper Motor and the original Oct 68 Hemi Carbs. Also has the correct Prestolite Dual Point Distributor, and the correct part numbered Radiator. It has all Mopar belts, hoses as well as date coded plug wires. A complete ECS exhaust system was used with their new date coded Hemi Mufflers that sound just like the originals. Not tinny like the previous reproductions.

The original Hemi Block is now bored 20 over and has NOS stock Chrysler pistons. (Not TRW or Keith Black). The crank is 10-10 and the stock rods were reconditioned and the assembly was balanced. New cam, timing chain and oil pump were also used. The 18-spline transmission has all new bearings and synchronizers and shifts like new. The 3:54 Dana 60 was disassembled and rebuilt using new carrier and pinion bearings along with a new posi clutch pack. The date found on the original ring gear is 8/28/68.

The convertible top is the correct Continental Grain that Chrysler used, and has the glass rear window. The top rafters were sandblasted and powder coated the correct shade of black.

All gauges were replaced with new including a quartz tic-tock-tach that works perfect. Legendary Interior supplied the seat covers, door panels, and new white conv. top boot. A new trunk mat, 15X6 restored “H” stamped steel wheel with an F70X15 Goodyear red line tire finish out the trunk.

The undercarriage was painted in the correct shade of grey primer and then body color was sprayed over the edges by the rocker panels, frame rails and wheel tubs just as Chrysler did in their paint process. Then undercoat was applied to the tubs and outer inner fenders.

All suspension and brakes have been completely rebuilt and detailed including the original Hemi K-Frame and leaf springs.

The car is shown wearing a set of 15X7 Kelsey Hays Warrior Wheels and a set of red line radials. Commonly referred to as the Recall Wheels, Chrysler had recalled these wheels by the end of 1968.

This impeccable rotisserie restoration was performed by several knowledgeable Mopar builders including the owner who has 32 years of assembly line experience at the two St Louis Chrysler Assembly Plants. There was not a single part on this automobile that was left untouched during the restoration. The attention to detail on this extremely rare and desirable Hemi B-Body Convertible is second to none.

This car has an ISA Certified appraisal written by Carl Roedel of Automobile Appraisal Service in St Louis, who is a member of the International Society of Appraisers. In the last paragraph of the valuation section of the appraisal, Carl states " I have to put a minimum value of $390,000 with a very real possibility it could sell for more as this is a very rare model, and more importantly this is most likely the best restored 1969 RT Convertible in existence"

Keep in mind, that only 10 years ago E-Body Hemi convertibles were in this price range. This car has tremendous investment potential.

Call your Mopar expert and bring him with you, so that you know there are no surprises. I have absolutely nothing to hide. There is a lift in my garage so you can conduct a thorough inspection of the car. I want whoever purchases this automobile to know they bought the best.
