We do not have the history as to why.The car has been repainted in 'Black' color with a matching interior. The engine and its associated components are in excellent condition as is the front and rear suspension and the exhaust system. The wheels and tires are as new. The car has custom Recaro Sports front bucket seats and custom gauges. Please note that the car has numerous small cosmetic defects including paint chips, tears in the headliner, missing radio, etc and should be considered an unfinished cosmetic project. The car should be considered a great daily driving all American muscle car that has been mechanically restored to be in great daily driving condition but that will need attention to its cosmetics for the more discerning buyers. The 383 c.i. V8 engine was rebuilt and modified with many high performance components and the original factory 727 automatic transmission was rebuilt. We have a thick file of recent records documenting over $50K already spent on the car!The 1968-70 Dodge Charger was, and still is, a styling sensation when introduced in 1968. The R/T stood for 'Road/Track' and was the extreme sporting model identified by it's designated XS29L VIN and 'Scat Pack' bumbleebee striped tail and was comprehensively equipped for grand touring American style including the competition style gas filler gap. The Hemi version cost $604.75 in 1968 dollars which might explain why only 475 such cars were ever sold with only 211 boasting the 4 speed manual transmission (which was a no cost option!). With these cars Detroit achieved a rare combination of classic lines, outstanding performance, and better than average quality control. Unfortunately styling along with performance deteriorated after 1970 and although the name continued through the '70's it was never to achieve the cult status and collectible desirability of this 1968-70 generation, especially after the success of the legendary '68 Charger in the Steve McQueen 'Bullitt' movie. This is a rare opportunity to own a great daily driving and very striking example of a custom rebuilt with high performance upgrades 1969 Dodge Charger 2 Door Hardtop in very striking condition!
