1953 Dodge Power Wagon Additional Info:

1953 B-3 Power Wagon
We are selling my favorite toy. Due to an injury, I am hardly able to climb in and out of the 25" high running boards and work the heavy-duty clutch in stop and go traffic and parades.
In 2014 this PW had a complete rebuilt 230 cu in engine replacement at about 41,500 miles. I have all the receipts for all restoration parts and labor. Then truck is now showing 42,736 miles. It has the original oil bath air cleaner, but its interior has been converted to a paper element, keeping the original look. The engine has been updated from the original sock oil filter to a NAPA 1080 cannister unit, also keeping the original look oil filter housing. It has a new radiator core. The transmission has been rebuilt with new bearings. The front and rear differentials were worn and began whining. They were replaced with correct NOS 5.83 units. The winch and rear belt pulley work correctly but need the mechanical governor (included) installed to maintain load speed when the pulley is running a firewood cut off saw or a thresher. The belt pulley is not an original Dodge unit as they are unobtainable. The pulley is from a tractor and fitted to work correctly. The bed floor is made from Black Locust trees that were cut on my property in 1984 and sawn into bed planks in 2012. They have 3 coats of spar urethane stain and 3 coats of clear urethane. They should easily last another century.New bed strips with stainless hardware. All new brake hardware. New floorboards and side kick panels. New seat cover, headliner, and door inside panels. New speedometer cable, rear window gasket, and brake master cylinder repair kit. NOS driver sun visor. The winch has about 100 feet of stainless cable. The cable lead is 1/2" chain that adds to the badassery of the truck. However, it would be more correct with the standard 150 feet of 7/16" cable.
To give the truck some understated sparkle, the headlight support brackets, cowl light support brackets, speedometer bezel and instrument cluster bezel were powder coated chrome color. The mirrors are chrome. The add on mounted fire extinguisher is period correct, as is the Jerry can and its holder.
To get more speed out of this truck, I up sized to period correct 5 hole Budd split ring 20 inch wheels and new B.F. Goodrich Silvertown 10 ply 7.50 20 tires with correct tubes and liners. The spare is an 8.50 because it's what I had. There was a notable gain in speed and easier steering. The rear back up light is period correct with an audible alarm when it is on, as a reminder in such a noisy truck so that it doesn't remain on. Front signal lights are vintage Arrow Safety Signal that also have an audible alarm for the same reason. The front fog lights are vintage with a correct Unity light switch.
The truck was painted in 2011 with a heat fatigue method so as to make a vintage wear and tear patina that still allowed the new paint to shine. By painting standards, it is amateur paint work. It was never intended to be a trailer queen perfect paint job. The photos show the dents and dings and some front fender Bondo imperfections. The tailgate chains have a hand sewn period correct canvas wrap. New windshield weather stripping. All new dash data plaques. Metal fabricated glove box insert. Windshield opens and closes correctly.
The temperature gauge capillary recently broke and is replaced with a below dash temp gauge until a period correct gauge can be found. The windshield wipers are upgraded from the original vacuum units to the sorry pos plastic case "Mighty Wiper" motors that VPW sells. Their quality is so bad they will let the wiper arms be blown off the windshield at highway speeds. I have 2 replacement period correct Bosch working units that come with it, but I haven't found them yet! The fuel gauge is not working. Both window regulators work but it is really hard to raise/lower both windows.
Another PW project that I am not able to complete is that I finally found a mechanical governor to control the load/engine speed for the rear belt pulley. It is not installed and would need a bracket fabricated and installed. I do have the super rare governor control lever that attaches below the clove box. It has holes and a pin latch for adjusting engine speed for the rear pulley and hooks through the fire wall to carb/ governor.
The truck runs and drives very nice and respectable for a 70-year-old unsynchronized transmission, 16 rear leaf springs, no power steering, one ton truck. It has its share of rattles, whines, and loud exhaust. The top speed of 52 MPH keeps it off interstates and leads the traffic on two lanes. Each stop garners admirers and questions as the trucks were not prolific in the mid-Atlantic states mid-century. If the purchaser is from VA, I will include the 1953 license plates for their reassignment.
I encourage bidders to come inspect and or drive this Power Wagon. Please ask any questions through the message board only, not the app. Truck has a clear Virginia title. No warranty expressed or implied.
I have a meticulous binder with all receipts for engine work and VPW purchases. Truck comes with thousands of dollars of valuable extras, to include:

A set of 4 sixteen-inch Budd split ring rims and tires that are older military NDTs that still hold air with some tread left. I ran these for a couple of years with no issues.A set of 4 new Specialty Tires of America 20-inch NDT tires, less than 250 miles.A vintage Lever Lock brake load lock, uninstalled.Snow chains for all 4 wheelsSpare generatorSpare starterSpare carburetor1 dash fan1 nos Arrow Safety Signal light2 lug wrenches2 valve covers1 horn9 various Dodge sun visors1 oil bath air filter1 head/radiator gooseneck1 coil1 mechanical governor with linkage1 brake master cylinder1 oil breather cap1 Power Wagon shop manual1 Power Wagon parts manual
