1984 Dodge D350
I’ve owned this truck for several years, bought it from the original owner that kept it thinking he was going to tow his 5th wheel all over the country. Unfortunately life happens and this dream never worked out. It’s a true survivor with very low miles 45548 as of 10-28-23. I’ve put maybe 2000 miles on it myself hauling junk and helping my kids move. It runs remarkably well like you’d expect for a 45k mile truck.
It’s about as basic as it gets, everything is manual with the exception of the steering. NO air conditioning or power windows, it doesn’t even have vents in the dash. It has heat and defrost. Even in 1984 things were pretty simple.
It has the 5.9 360 gas powered V8 and a 4 speed manual transmission. This truck was built to work. It is however a prospector model even though the emblems have fallen off, you can still make out the outline of where they once were. The passenger rear fender is obviously broken. This is a fiberglass piece and you can still buy a new one if you want to fix it. The tailgate is banged up as well, but the rest of the truck is really in amazing shape. The bed floor isn’t all smashed in, it includes the Anderson or B&W hitch which is probably around the same age as the truck. It works like it should.
I have a giant fuel tank that was built for the bed that will work with the 5th wheel hitch that I removed when I got it. I wanted to haul stuff, not just a 5th wheel. It will be included although it’s buried in my shop so I don’t have a picture.
I recently went through and had the carburetor rebuilt. Previously maintained within the last 2 years I’ve replaced all the hoses, the water pump, the fuel pump, thermostat, spark plugs. I’m fairly certain you could get in it and drive it anywhere you wanted to go.
I bought a new heavy duty clutch when I was doing preventative maintenance. It doesn’t need it, but I bought it and put it on my shelf thinking someday it will. It comes with it.
If this was a Cummins truck the dollars would be a few digits longer. It isn’t and I’m OK with that. I think the beauty of this truck isn’t just the super low miles, it’s that it’s 100% original also. I wanted to repaint it and have the seat reupholstered but everyone wanted to talk me out of it, and I guess there is something to be said for factory 1984 paint on factory metal that has never been sanded off. I guess when you go to paint it or redo it, you know there isn’t some other body shops disaster underneath.
This truck has only lived in Klamath Falls, Oregon, it’s high desert, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. No salt on the roads. This truck is 100% rust free.
