I am regretfully selling my 1991.5 D250 Dodge Ram Cummins D250. I bought it last year from a classic vehicle dealer in Washington State who purchased it thru the original owner’s estate. When I bought this truck I knew I didn’t have room for it, but I bought it anyway because it was the nicest 1st gen Dodge I had ever seen. Needless to say I still don’t have room for it and I can barely walk through the building I keep it in so I am going to sell it.
This truck has had two owners – me and the original owner who is 94 years old. It was always garaged and it shows. These trucks are becoming a rarity and finding one that is 100% original is nearly impossible. Below is a detailed description.
Body/Paint/Glass
No rust ever – none starting or repaired. Washington State truck until 2015, stored in winter since. Paint is 100% original. No clearcoat or delamination issues and paint still shines. Has normal rock chips on bottom of truck and some left fender. I would say the paint/body has wear consistent with a 4-5 year-old truck. The chrome still gleams and all the weather stripping is soft and supple from being garaged. This is the only 1st gen I have had that the vent windows don’t whistle going down the road. All the glass is in[TS1] great shape – no cracks or stains. The sheet metal is smooth and straight – please see pictures. And you can see the inside of the bed is like new. The doors and tailgate function correctly.
You will find a few touched up minor scratches and chipsalso but for the most part the paint is exceptional. This truck has never been detailed, buffed, degreased or shampooed…you see it as it has looked for last two decades plus.
Interior
It is like new- the seat sits firm and high. The carpet, dash, headliner and door panels are in excellent condition. No sun fade or fraying… the dash and instrument cluster are 100% too. The door hinges are not worn or droopy. The interior smells pleasant and clean and it has not been smoked in. The seat belts extend, fasten and retract like they were designed. The sunvisors stay where you put them.
Electrical/HVAC
A/C is cold, heat is hot and comes out the appropriate vents. Cruise control works right. Power windows roll up and down fast. Both power door locks work. Horn, dome light and radio work.Wipers work. All lighting such as high/low beams, tail lights, turn signals, flasher and brake lights work, along with cargo light. The wiring is original and unmolested and the fuse box sits in its original clip above the steering column, which has “tilt” which also works. Fuel, temp, volts and oil pressure gauges work and indicate normal functions. The speedometer, odometer and trip odometer all work and are accurate. The original owner installed a gauge package on the dash with boost, pyrometer and RPMS and these work also, but the light that comes on at night on the tach is burned out I think. There is also a working trans temp gauge and some sort of trailer brake gauge like trucks had in the old days. All instrument cluster backlighting works. The “wait to start” RWAL and “water in fuel” lights all work and come on and go off as designed. Backup and license plate lights work too. Power mirrors work correctly on both sides. Clock works.
Mechanical
This truck starts in an instant hot or cold and runs like new. It does not have any leaks whatsoever. Sat in my heated garaged all winter and didn’t leave a drop. The transmission shifts great cold or hot. There is no drive line whine or noise. It steers straight and does not have steering play or pull. The brake pedal is firm with no pulsation or pull. I have never used the parking brake. It will get 23-24 MPG driving normal speeds…and it has lots of power too. No excessive smoke or haze from the exhaust which is all original and intact. The frame, under carriage, axles etc. are clean in a way only a no-salt west coast truck can be. I believe the front coil springs are sagging from having a 1200 lb. Cummins motor on top of them for 26 years – This is typical on both the 4x4 and 2WDs and the driver side sits ½ to ¾ inch lower than the passenger side. The tires have lots of tread and drive out well. They have some minor weather checking like most Michelin tires. Also – as a 1991.5 this truck is intercooled, but still has an external voltage regulator and no cam or crank sensors like the 92 and up 12 valves…all it really needs is fuel, air and 12 volts to run. There is an under- the- bed auxiliary transmission cooler activated by a switch on the dash and this works also…this was a dealer installed option on some of the first gen trucks.
You can leave this truck sitting for weeks and it holds a charge and starts on the first revolution. The oil and antifreeze are clean with no contaminants and there is no blowby. I keep the fuel tanks full on all the vehicles I own and this one is full too. I also kept it treated with Power Service and biocide to keep the fuel fresh.
Summary
This is a hard-to-find 2 owner (both older) truck. It is in excellent condition, but it is also 26 years old, so it is not new and there are minor imperfections on every panel. If you have not ever bought online before you will soon learn everything looks great in pictures – but this truck looks nice in person too. I have a clean, clear title in hand in my name. Indiana requires a police inspection of the truck and title which was done. Miles are correct, but exempt thanks to a lazy BMV employee. I do have copies of the original title work that substantiate the miles, as the condition of the truck does also. No trades. Cash, wire transfer or bank check only. US BUYERS ONLY. Truck and title stay with me until funds clear. You can pick it up here or I will assist your shipper. I won’t deliver it…I work out of town part of the week and I do not have time. The reserve is set a less than I have in it. I will not end the auction early. Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of auction end. If you do not have the funds to pay for it, please just pass.
