1968 Dodge Charger Additional Info:

Thanks for checking out the 68 Charger. This is a street legal race car. SCTA land speed trial qualified in 2004, with current CA tags, registration, and insurance for street use. This car is an absolute head turner at your local cars and coffee, she really makes an entrance. In the gallery you will see the car with parachute and moon discs removed to view in her street clothes if preferred. A full street conversion is definitely possible if desired. The roll cage has keyed door-way bars for ease of entrance and exit, as well as quick release steering wheel. This car is straight as an arrow with excellent metal. All the gaps and shut lines are dead nuts straight. The build is heavily documented. The gallery only features a fraction of the over 2000 photographs that will accompany the car.No corners were cut, as to be expected when the builder is going to attempt speeds of 200 mph. This car was built in 2004 by Jimmy Shine, Pete Chapouris, Dick Landy, Robin Silk, Ron Jenkins, Pauly Rivera and a cast of others. Objective was to build this car and run over 200 MPH on the dry lakes of California for a television show. Ran 182 MPH before the police showed up and stopped the filming. Show was filmed for Discovery channel but never aired. The car has a unique history unlike any other and a pedigree of the finest craftsmen. It’s believed that this one of the last cars worked on by Dick Landy before his passing in 2007.After the car was filmed at the dry lakes, it went into hibernation until 2020. At that time, Shine Speedshop brought the car back to life, undergoing a 3-year refurbishment as seen in the gallery, including installation of new drivetrain. Appx 175 miles on the new drivetrain. Here’s a few highlights:

-426 Hemi engine, from the Keith Black estate, iron block, KB aluminum heads, magnesium KB valve covers, dual Edelbrock 650 carburetors. SCAT stroker “knife edged” crank, 494 cu in, 10:1 compression, 510 HP @ 566 torque.

-727 Torque Flight trans with billet steel planetary, Hemi input shaft. Built by WPT.

-Ron Davis aluminum radiator, Meziere water pump, Spal fan.

-Currie 9” Ford rearend, Strange 3rdmember, 3:00:1 gear, 31 spline axles.

-Wilwood disc brakes on all 4 corners.

-Magnum Performance suspension, tubular control arms, ladder bars, Speedway Eng heavy sway bars.

-Taylor Made custom rims, rated to 500 MPH land speed. MOON racing land speed hubcaps.

-Dunlop tires, 5:50-16 fronts, 7:00-18 rears, rated to 250 MPH.

-TTI headers with “gulp valves” for engine breathing.

-MAGNAFLOW exhaust, 3 ½” dia with 4” stainless steel shotgun cannons out the back.

-12-point roll cage with removeable “keyed” door bars.

-SCTA Land Speed trial qualified.

-Fire suppression system in cockpit and under hood.

-12-gallon fuel cell, dual Optima batteries.

-JAZ bucket seats.

-Deist 5-point harnesses, Deist 10’ blossom parachute.

-AUTOMETER gauges.

-100% fully functioning lights, hi/lo, running, turn signals and brakes, headlights behind doors are cable actuated.
