The 1970 Dodge Challenger convertible accounted foronly 5% of total 70 Challenger production. This factory red on red car was one of less than 50 ever built!
This is a 3 owner car that has been in California since nearly new. Vehicle was purchased in the early70's buy a gentleman from Northern CA,& remained there until purchased 5 years ago by another man from L.A. County. Vehicle would still have original blue & yellow CA plates except the second owner decided on a personalized plate. Second owner also carried out numerous mechanical upgrades including installation of a 440 V8 with correct hipo exhaust manifolds, & a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, 4V aluminum intake manifold with Carter 4V carb, Mopar performance electronic ignition, & heavy duty aluminum radiator.During this ownership vehicle also received a correct color (Rallye Red) exterior paint job with factory white body stripes as it came off the assembly line in 1970. The interiorincludingralley dash & dash pad were completely restored to show specs, & the woodgrain rim blow steering wheel was also restored. A correct original restoredAM/FM radio was upgraded from the standard AM the vehicle came with. Many thousands were spent in the dash area & interior restoration alone, even the factory clock works! Owner also decided to change the upholstery color to correct Legendary white instead of the factory red. The 2 colors (red & white) look great together & seats will stay cooler with the top down. The power convertible top may be original as it is slightly weathered & seems to have the correct Boar grain vinyl as original. All in all this car looks amazing inside & out & is powerful, safe, & fun to drive at any speed. Car is not a 100 point show piece but will turn heads wherever it goes, &was restored to be driven & enjoyed as it should!
The body on the car is in excellent condition with all original panels (see pics). The trunk floor is in excellent condition & the understructure is rock solid including frames, rocker panels, & floors. It appears thecar hadthe 2 small rear floor sections(under rear passenger's feet) replaced years ago so obviously rust wasvery minimal. The paint is considered decent driver quality & is ready to enjoy now without being redone. If you want an absolute show piece that you won't ever drive then you will have to paint the car again. Here is a list of some of the factory options & their respective codes (see fender tag photo):
FE5- RALLYE RED EXTERIOR PAINT
H6E4- PREMIUM RED VINYL BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR
