1960 Dodge D100 Pickup

In the 1960's car buying was an adventure with dealers at the advantage, and plenty of added on items were real profit generators, and Dodge Dealers were no exceptions. Modern buyers might be amused by some of the options - heater at $49.70 or $68.10, depending on whether fresh air intake was desired; rear view mirror ($3.30); turn signals ($20 to $28.50); AM radio ($59); and right-side sun visor ($3). Buyers could also opt for a one-quart oil-bath type air cleaner at $6.60 on sixes or $8 on V8, replacing the standard air cleaner; chrome-plated front bumper for $14; and larger capacity oil filter for $9.30 on the six.

For consignment, a snazzy street rodded, shaved, eye candy colored Dodge D100, with some awesome mods. A smooth runner, originally bought at the age of 14 by the consigner who was going to use it as his everyday driver, then his fancy changed to another daily driver.

Exterior
Dripping (not literally!) in Sunburst Orange Paint in excellent condition, this step side slammed truck sports ultra-cool shiny Foose wheels all around. Factory fenders, and all straight and true, watching it sit still it appears as moving...how'd they do that?! Upfront the modifications include a shaved bumper, color coordinated painted bezels for the duals, and a pristine badged grille. A quasi wraparound front windshield nestles nicely being the original shaped big hood and is trimmed with shiny stainless. What little chrome that peppers this truck is in excellent condition. The bed is lined with all-weather gray carpet, and the tailgate and rear have been smoothed of badging and the bumper area is cleanly shaved.

Interior
A swing of the solid doors and we see the original door design with a swooping gunmetal gray vinyl panels with inset power window controls. Jumping inside we land on cushy cloth 2 tone high back buckets, covered in cloth. These flank a center console/armrest. An exterior matching dash with a Jetsons era shaped instrument cluster is embedded with new RPM gauges in a machined swirl aluminum background. Simple but elegant and dripping with early 60's jet age style. Protruding from that iconic dash is an adjustable aluminum rally steering wheel. All weather gray carpet, which matches the bed is seen flooding the floor, and a nice sprayed metal headliner. Noted are power steering and power brakes which have been added during the rebuild.

Drivetrain
Hold on tight as this roller coaster has a 350ci Chevy Crate Engine, topped by an Edelbrock 600, and backed up by a Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission. The engine bay is clean enough to eat off of, but then you would soil it! Power goes back to an 8" Ford rear. Consigner stated that this truck idles for a while the water temp will rise due to a small flex fan, otherwise it is a screamer.

Undercarriage
Well done and preserved as no rust is seen, and all is clean and green...well, black. Dual exhaust from headers snakes its way to the sides through dual cherry bombs and makes its way out of chrome tips which peek out just below the diamond plated stepsides. Progressive rear springs, in the D-100 models, automatically compensate for changing loads. Tension-type rear spring shackles aid stability, reduce noise, and need no lubrication. Mustang II front axles with semi- and full-floating rear axles provide strength.

Sexy Sunburst Orange, A 350ci Crate Engine, Foose Wheels, and a retro dash, and we have a winner! Actually, it's a street rodded D-100, and it has won some awards, so both are true. This is a shining star in our halls here at Classic Auto Mall, so come on down, and have your wish granted!
