1984 Dodge Charger Additional Info:

For sale is a very special 1984 Dodge Shelby Charger, as this specific version was a test or 'Pilot' car to determine if they wanted to put these special options into production. As they never actually put these specific upgrades into production, this car became one of one. A true rare collectors car for any Shelby or Dodge enthusiast.
The Dodge Shelby Charger was the first result of the renewed relationship between Carroll Shelby and Lee Iacocca. Based on the Dodge Charger, the Shelby Charger’s modifications included an enhanced 2.2-liter, 4 cylinder OHC engine with a revised camshaft and 9.6:1 compression ratio. A new 5-speed transaxle blended with closer gear ratios for an overall top gear ratio of 2.78. The car also sported a specially designed suspension package with stiffer springs and higher rate shocks than the production Shelby Charger. These changes packed a punch that was sure to impress!

The Shelby also received a special performance exhaust system, all-new 14:1 fast ratio power steering, high capacity power brakes with vented front discs and larger rear drums, engine dress-up that included a chrome valve cover, and special sports suspension that improved the already responsive handling. The shocks were notably stiffer all around. Shorter springs, which lowered the car almost in inch, were 30% stiffer in the front and 15% stiffer in the rear which were all unique to this 1 of 1 vehicle! New low-profile P195/50R-15 Goodyear Eagle GT steel-belted radials with raised black letters mounted on new 4-lug aluminum "pizza" wheels. Shelby aerodynamic designs included a new nosepiece with functional air dam. The ducktail spoiler and ground effect side skirts were carried over from the Charger 2.2

For 1983,Carroll Shelbymodified the Dodge Charger, to be sold at Dodge dealers as theDodge Shelby Charger. Rather than focusing on speed, Shelby modified the suspension and styling. The engine compression was raised for 107hp (80kW), and themanual transmissionhad revised ratios. Shorter springs, special wheels, and tires complemented stronger brakes and quicker steering. Outside, a new nose and racing stripes accented the performance image. The body kits, among other parts, were often shipped to dealerships along with the car to be put on after delivery. The reasoning behind this varied, but was said to speed delivery and compensate for ground clearance issues that the cars faced on many car carriers. Production was 8,251 for that first year.

For 1984, the Shelby Charger could be ordered with an optionalautomatic transmission. There were 7,552 Shelby Chargers sold this model year. The high-output engine (now up to 110hp (82kW)) was also available in baseline Chargers and Turismos. These vehicles came in "Charger 2.2" and "Turismo 2.2" schemes, which included Shelby Charger side GFX, an additional, skinnier, front ground effect (different from the Shelby Charger's due to the quad-headlight fascia), "2.2" decals, and an optional hood scoop.

Dodge Shelby Chargers were available in four different color combinations: Black w/silver skunk stripe (1985–87), Santa Fe Blue w/silver skunk stripe (1983–86), Silver w/Santa Fe Blue skunk stripe (1983–86), and Garnett Red w/silver skunk stripe (1984–87).

This car has been part of a Dodge Shelby collection for the last 10 years. It starts and drives and is in great condition. The car has been stored in a climate controlled garage and has not been driven regularly keeping the mileage very low.

As with any vehicle, this car has some small flaws. The tachometer needle seems to have fallen and will need to be repaired. There are a few small blemishes on the car that reflect its age, but overall the car is in very good condition. The interior is gorgeous and this will make for a great addition to anyones unique car collection!! The car will come with extensive history, records, original magazines, and memorabilia.
