After 24 years, it's time to let her go.
Ipurchased my Challenger back in 1995. Shewas a tired "top banana" slant six convertible with drum brakes on all four corners, but drove the 90 miles home without any issues. My dream was to have a 440 SixPack convertible, and at the time I concluded this was my best shot. What followed was years of collecting parts, many evenings of scraped knuckles and an incredible number of hours of work by my friend Bill and me.
Ultimately it turned out to be gorgeous, a true head turner with its brilliant Top Banana coat, contrasting with the black stripes, top and interior. It is so much fun to drive around, and the comments from people are fantastic. So many people wave or give a thumbs up and kids have leaned out the window and yelled, "I love your car!" There was a gentleman at the grocery store who told me, "Man, THAT takes me back! The color is awesome!"
The look... the burbling lope while idling... the sound when all three Holley's are kicked in... What can I say, it's great!
Everything on the car was replaced or modified during the build (it had to be due to the nature of the conversion). The car was dismantled, the shell stripped down to metal by American Stripping, and all questionable/rusted metal replaced as part of the rebuild.

The list of modifications and upgrades is long, but here are the highlights:Drivetrain440ci, .030 over (446ci), windage tray.The casting # is 2536430-9, sourced from a 1969 Imperial. The machining and rebuild were kept close to stock, except for the overbore, cam and windage tray. The heads have hardened exhaust seats installed
Mopar Performance Purple Shaft with hydraulic lifters (Duration 268/284, Lift .450/.458)
The exhaust crossover is blocked via the intake manifold gasket to improve air/fuel density.
The intake and Holley carbs are original factory items, with the iron intake casting# date-correct for 1970.
The carbs were rebuilt with new gaskets and seals in 2012.
