Blazers? Got 'em! Broncos? How many do you want? RamCharger? Wait a minute! When was the last time you saw one of these, let alone one in such great condition? This 1989 Dodge RamCharger LE 4x4 (that's a mouthful) is one heck of a well-preserved SUV and if you're a Mopar guy, this is the 4x4 you'll prefer to drive. It's been a long time since Dodge built a full-sized SUV, and after seeing this gorgeous RamCharger, you've... gotta wonder why. It's got great proportions and a competent look that only needs a leathery-looking guy in a denim shirt and a cowboy hat to make it complete. The two-tone paint was refinished recently and looks fantastic today; so nice, in fact, that you'll definitely think twice before heading out into the brush where you'll be needing that 4-wheel-drive. It doesn't look like this truck has ever been neglected or wrecked (Vehicle History Report backs that up), as the sheetmetal is laser-straight and as you can imagine, replacement body pieces are virtually impossible to find. Details like the grille and ram's head hood ornament should look familiar but the SUV body with its tall glass that wraps into the roof and giant hatchback will make most folks do a double-take when they see it. This one also features some very nice chrome bumpers, a lot of shiny stainless trim and correct emblems everywhere they're supposed to be. The blue interior should look and feel familiar to anyone who drove an '80s Ram pickup truck, but it's the back seat and cargo area that make this truck special. Tall bucket seats remain in impressive condition (save for a tear on the bottom passenger side seat) with comfortable blue fabric that seems to wear like iron, and the original carpets are surprisingly plush for a truck. This RamCharger is nicely outfitted with things like A/C, cruise control, and a tilt steering column, all fairly unusual in 1989 but definitely welcome in your vintage SUV. The original Chrysler AM/FM stereo radio is still in the dash, which shows no signs of UV damage or major cracking on the upper surfaces. There's a column-mounted shifter for the 3-speed automatic transmission while the shifter for the 2-speed transfer case is waaaay over there on the passenger's side. The back seat looks virtually unused and there's plenty of room in the cargo bay even with a full-sized spare hanging on the side. Chrysler's erstwhile 5.9 liter V8 (also known as a 360) provides plenty of toque to get the full-sized SUV up to speed. The bright blue paint surrounding the engine is a great background for the highly original mechanicals, which are authentic right down to the cold air intake hose on the air cleaner. It starts easily and idles surprisingly smoothly for a truck engine and the performance is lively enough to make the RamCharger fun to drive, even on pavement. The driveline is equally stout, with the requisite transfer case, axles, and gears to make it effective in the rough stuff and the suspension consists of stock leaf springs and shocks all around. This one is so nice underneath that it appears to still have the original Y-pipe in place with a pair of mufflers behind it for a very hushed sound on the road. More recently, a set of aluminum wheels was added and they carry 295/70/17 off-road radials. You may never find another one of these at any price and in any condition, let alone one this nice and with just 77,765 original miles. If you're a Mopar fan wondering when he'd get another full-sized Dodge SUV, well, this might be your only hope. Call today!
