1964 Dodge Polara
I bought this car no-engine from Collector Motors in Houston, TX. Then bought the mid 70’s 440 which never quite worked well in the car. Might have to do with internal v. external balance. I had weights welded to the torque converter, but still not right. When running the engine popped, stuttered and stalled. Plan on doing some engine work.
I had door panels and back seat reupholstered, covering just the bad areas, and preserving the tri-star and swirly embossing from the factory materials. Door panels still need installed. Needs headliner and carpet. Inside window trim is all pitted and rusted, needs sand blast and rechrome or paint.
I think the car may have had race history, as the nose was high and it had traction bars when I got it.
Some rust repair in floors but they are good now. A little bubbling over the right rear wheel, but doesn’t seem to worsen. I think between race history and coming from the Southeast (before texas) that it didn’t have much rust, so repairs were probably minimal. An “up” ding in the hood, thanks to a mechanic, I am sure. All in all, a good 20 footer. Nice paint, not perfect, but head turner. Straight! It’s been outside for a while now, sometimes covered, sometimes not. The roof and hood have faded out from sun. Maybe can be brought back, maybe repaint the top in blue, and I always wanted to paint the hood in flat black
Mostly complete. Missing hood lip trim (thanks to mechanic again) and one roof side panel tristar.
Tires are old 14’s on rally rims. They have tread, but bad sidewalls. Just for rolling around. You will need new tires for street use!
It ran when parked, but not for some time now. We may have resolved some issues by fixing some loose connections on the ignition. Still backfires and pops sometimes, maybe a sticking valve. It used to chirp the tires when shifting. The tranny has gone bad from sitting.
I am offering the car, in THIS SALE, As-Is, Where-Is. Mystery engine, and bad tranny. A good Mopar mechanic can probably fix the engine without doing a full rebuild. The push-button tranny needs rebuild. Please satisfy your questions by examining photos, or come and see the car. There are no guarantees or warrantees with this car.
Not Included: I have a fresh Non-push-button 727 tranny and torque converter, rebuilt by Don’s Automotive in Denver, CO, at a cost of $1000. This will probably mate up better with the 70’s 440 that’s in the car now. ADD $1000 for the rebuilt tranny. You will need to install a column or floor shifter to make it work.
Not Included: I also have a 383 Road Runner engine that’s fresh built with all cool, vintage speed components. Inquire if interested in the engine. It would be on the side, you haul, you install, As-Is, where-Is.
