1970 Dodge Challenger Additional Info:
This Plum Crazy Challenger was purchased new in 1969. It was then immediately used to drag race. It was raced up until 1975. Somewhere in this time frame it was painted black and lettered. Carbs were switched ou, trunk mounted battery and electric fuel pump, headers added, etc. I am told that from 1975 until 1981 it sat tied up in a divorce. It was then sold to the second owner with 22,000 miles on it. He had it custom painted as you see it today. He took it to a few cruises and local car shows but spent most of the time in his Vette. I was also told that this car has never sat outside in rain or snow which looks to be true. I purchased the car just 1 year ago with just over 29,000 miles and intentions of doing a full restoration back to factory. Due to an urge my wife has to reduce "inventory" and eventually move to a grass hut I am now selling this one.
The car is SUPER SOLID with only a few small seam bubbles ahead of the rear wheels where the quarter panels attach. A few small pinholes in the trunk and the drivers floor constitute all the rust problems in the car. Subframe, cross member/torsion bar areas solid as factory.
The car has the rare elastomeric or rubber front bumper option, and would originally have had a white vinyl top with white side stripes.
Other than the carpet which I replaced last year due to fading the interior is all original. Even the underside of the dash is still shiny as new. I still have the original carpeting too. Included are partial build sheets.
It is a console car and comes with the original console and brackets which had been carefully removed earlier.
The original engine was evidently blown long ago and replaced with a 1968 440. Since the car was built in 12 of 69 I have a NON 6-pak 69 block and heads as well as an early 70 block and heads. Both have rods, one crank. I have the correct 6 pak oil pan to replace the deep drag pan, the correct 6-pak air cleaner set up, an UNCRACKED correct 70 aluminum bell housing to replace the Lakewood drag unit. I also have numerous other resto parts for the car including a fresh in box $1,000 dash pad pros black dash pad. Best replacement dash pad available. The original has a speaker area crack of course. Also included is a very good light switch panel, correct valve covers, un-cracked H.P. exhaust manifolds. I do not have a factory NON chrome Dana rear cover.
There are also left over Challenger/Mopar parts from prior projects. Starters, timing cover,Challenger rear window glass,E-body R/T leaf springs, Mopar fasteners, and 1 nos factory exhaust tip etc.
This is a rare car in any condition much less with this low mileage and almost rust free, it is being honestly listed and I expect the same from the buyer in return. CLEAR TITLE IN HAND !
To show you are serious I am asking that a NON-REFUNDABLE $500 deposit be in my hands no more than 3 days after auctions end with you as the winning bidder.
