1952 Dodge Other Pickups Additional Info:
This is a very original truck. I estimate originality to be 95 to 99%. If you see something in the pics that does not look original, it means I saved the original parts in a box or in my garage and they all go with the truck of course. I know the entire history of this truck and to the best of my knowledge the mileage is correct. I actually spoke to the son of the original owner and he provided the history of the truck. Things I have done:
- Replaced some of the old cloth covered wiring.
- New plugs, wires and Pertronix electronic distributor plate added to replace old points/brush system. Distributor still looks original from outside and I saved all original parts.
- Rebuilt the original carb.
- Added an electric fuel pump to bypass the original block mounted pump because it needs a new gasket.
- Re-upholstered the seat with non-original material; however I have the complete original seat frame.
- Replaced stakebody bed with new 5/4 oak and SS hardware, and the metal hold strips are all original.
- Pulled the bed frame off the truck, wire brushed and coated entire frame and brackets.
- Installed new temp sensor and gauge (still have original gauge and the dash was not cut up).
- Sanded off the gray and rust color paints that were on the truck to reveal its original red paint with original signage on the doors. This is how I tracked down the original owner's son.
- Added rear tail/brake lights for safety reasons on the road.
- Using linseed oil to preserve the paint patina.
Only drove to antique truck/car shows a few times after I did all of the above. The truck starts right up and runs well. All lights work. Tires are newer and in great shape. The truck has a 1 and 1/2 ton rating and geared low from the factory, as it was originally used on a farm to haul items to market. The truck is fun to drive and gets a lot of looks and compliments when I take it out for a drive.
Although the floorboards are original and in good shape, I did buy a brand new in the box floor replacement panel at a show because of the great price. I wanted to have it on hand in case I needed in the future. It is included.
Things needed:
- Original radiator has some leaks. I have not yet pulled the radiator to see if it can be repaired. I do know that a brand new aluminum radiator is available on eBay, but I just haven't got that far yet with the pulling of the existing radiator to determine which way to go.
- The driver side window is cracked and taped and does function, but I would replace with new glass or acrylic. Same for the rear window.
- There is some minor rust/cancer spots at the lower outside corners of both doors, that can be easily fixed. I just haven't done the repairs yet, but should be a very easy fix.
