This E-body two-door hardtop, dressed in correct Black Diamond (code TX9) paint with a full black vinyl roof (code V1X), was assembled in Chrysler’s Hamtramck, Michigan factory on January 15, 1973. It was ordered with the following options – Rallye Package, front bucket seats, center console with woodgrain panel, OS dual racing mirrors, sport hood, dual exhausts with chrome exhaust tips, tachometer, power front disc brakes and 10-inch rear drums, power steering and roof drip rail moldings.
Original owner had it restored in 2006. He added fewer than 500 miles since completing the restoration. Its 340 CID V-8 engine was completely and professionally rebuilt to 1969 specifications – 10.25:1 compression, 2.02 valve intakes and the engine was ported, polished and blueprinted. Engine is linked to a numbers matching three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission that was overhauled during the vehicle’s revamp. The rear end was redone, too, it now locks and comes with 3.55 gearing. Other new parts include front suspension bushings, upper and lower ball joints and competition rear leaf springs. The car’s bumpers are tucked in tight to the body and wear the period correct bumper override pads.
Its paint is shiny, lustrous and in fantastic condition with only possible minor blemishes. The windshield and other glass panels are crack-free and clear, the vehicle’s lights are present and in good shape. The car rolls on factory very nice vented Rallye alloy wheels, surrounded by BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, size 235/60R15. All of the body panels are straight, the engine bay is tidy and the battery looks new.
Inside, the car’s reupholstered red cloth bucket seats are in very good condition, while the matching carpet is in good shape. The headliner is new and the instrument panel is crack-free and looks great. Car has the optional tachometer. There’s a two-spoke steering wheel that is in good order, along with the package shelf, rearview and sideview mirrors, center console with woodgrain panel and shift lever. Completing the interior is a Sony AM/FM stereo with CD player with two 6×9 speakers in the rear package shelf.
The R/T series was replaced by the Rallye series. One engine choice was a performance oriented 340 cu in V-8 which was equipped with a four-barrel carb, performance camshaft, heads and dual exhausts. It was detuned to lower compression ratios to run on lead-free gasoline and the horsepower ratings were lowered to reflect the more accurate Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) net hp calculations. Each engine could be mated to a three-speed manual or automatic transmission, while the 340 could also be equipped with a four-speed manual if so ordered.
The performance axle ratios were also gone except for a 3.55 sure grip which could only be had with the 340 and the heavy duty suspension. The 1972 models also received a new grille that extended beneath the front bumper, as well as new rear tail-lights. The 1972 grille and tail-light arrangement carried over for the 1973 models and the mandatory five mph bumpers were added. While the 225 cu in six-cylinder engine was dropped, (leaving just the two V-8s), all option lists otherwise were carry-overs from 1972.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 41,511 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title.
