Let me first say that I am listing this 1973 Dodge Dart Sport for a well-known classic and muscle car dealership and in doing so, I will be acting as an agent for this dealership. The owner, who is a friend and someone that I have known for over 20 years, founded his dealership in 1996 and has been a veteran of the car business for over 30 years. All of his vehicles are chosen for the highest standards and quality. A careful and complete analysis is done on every one before they offered for sale. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or additional needed information.
As to myself, I am a (66) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that has only one negative feedback which I believe I should not have received. I was given the option to refund money to the buyer or he would leave negative feedback and ruin my 100% feedback. I did nothing wrong and always disclose everything in my ads so I declined. He left the one and only negative comment out of (1,149) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.
Just some quick history on the 1973 Dodge Dart Sport:
Introduced in two levels, the Demon came with either a 198ci slant-six or a 340ci V-8. The larger of the two engines went hand in hand with the Demon 340 moniker, complete with cartoon devil and trident decals on the car.
The 340ci engine featured a hot cam, hydraulic lifters, and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. And although it wasn’t of the big block variety like many competitors were equipping their vehicles with, it certainly gave any competitor a run for its money with the car weighing in at just 3,165lbs.
In addition to the 275hp 340ci engine capable of producing 340lb-ft of torque, the 1971 Demon 340 was equipped with a synchronized floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission, dual exhaust, all-wheel drum brakes, a Sure-Grip differential, and wide-tread bias belted E70X14 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires wrapped around 14-inch wheels. A special high-performance Rallye suspension was also standard equipment on the Demon 340, featuring heavy duty torsion bars and a stabilizer bar in the front, as well as springs, oversized shock absorbers and anti-sway bar in the rear.
Other features that became synonymous with the Demon 340 were the special blacked-out dual scoop hood and additional spoiler package, both optional for the 340, as well as eye-popping exterior color options like Go-Green and Citron Yella. The ’71 Dart lineup, including the Demon 340, was also among the first vehicles to include a cassette player in their interior.
Demon 340 owners could also opt for a 4-speed manual or a 3-speed Torque Flite automatic transmission in place of the standard 3-speed manual gearbox.
Other optional equipment included bucket seats, a 6,000RPM tachometer, and Rallye wheels, as well as different mirrors, interior, tires and a thick rimmed, 14 1/2-inch “Tuff” steering wheel with the high-end Demon Sizzler package. A choice from several rear-end gear ratios, ranging from 2.94:1 all the way up to 4.10:1, were also available to Demon 340 purchasers.
By 1972, the Demon had proved to be less popular than expected, but Dodge continued on with the model through the 1972 model year. For the second year of the Demon, the car received the same base slant-six engine and added a 225ci slant-six, but the 340ci V-8 was detuned due to government emission regulations to boast only 240hp and 290lb-ft of torque.
A decrease in power along with a not-so-popular run in the first place caused the Demon much trouble at the end of the 1972 model year. Adding injury to insult, many Christian groups were still after Dodge for the car’s nameplate and subsequent cartoon devil logo, some even going so far as to protest against the car as well as the Dodge brand.
After a two-year fight, Dodge changed the name of the car in 1973, offering the Dart Sport and Dart Sport 340 instead of the Demon and Demon 340.
Although the changed model name appeased angry religious groups, it didn’t increase the car’s popularity and the Dart Sport line only ran for three more years. By the end of 1976, all Dart models were pulled from the American automotive market.
And now for this 1973 Dodge Dart Sport that I am selling on eBay today:
This 1973 Dodge Dart Sport is an unrestored example of a number’s matching H-Code 340ci car with its numbers matching 3-speed transmission (not in the car right now). Currently there is a very nice 833 4-speed carrying out the transmission duties. Both 3 and 4-speed transmissions come with the car. The car has a factory 8¼ rear axle with a 3.23 sure grip. Still wearing the original paint as well as the original interior, the Dart has only clocked 54,309 actual miles. It has a well preserved oiled undercarriage that looks to be rust free. Another great selling point is the fact that the Sport still retains all of the original sheet metal. Purchased with the factory Sport hood option, power front disc brakes, front and rear bumper guards, AM radio and black sport stripe. The hood hold down pins we believe were dealer installed but are not positive. Currently riding on Weld racing wheels with raised white letter tires but the original rally wheels do come with the car. There is a functional aftermarket tach mounted on the steering column. The trunk retains the original jack assembly along with a full size spare.
Documentation includes the original broadcast sheet, original IBM card, sales brochure and owner history with only 3 owners since new. Just as an FYI, there is a MA title and new legendary seat covers on order that will go with the car.

A true “Time Capsule”, this 1973 Dodge Dart Sport is a completely numbers matching “SURVIVOR” car with the original Broadcast Sheet. It is powered by the 340ci V8 and 4BBL carburetor backed up with the A-833 4-speed transmission. Putting the rubber to the road is the 8¼ Sure-Grip rear axle with a 3.23:1 ratio.
This is a wonderful specimen of a very rare and unmolested 1973 Dodge Dart Sport. Brought up to New England from Florida when a navy officer was released from service. He originally thought he would take the bus back to New Hampshire and then buy a car but had second thoughts. Why not buy a car in Florida and drive it back to New Hampshire? That is just what he did.
The car starts, runs and drives perfectly, with the heavy-duty suspension, front and rear sway bars, it feels very firm and solid without any squeaks or rattles and goes down the road like it did back in 1973. The car has no leaks and does not leave drops of fluid or stains on the floor below. All interior and exterior lights work. This 1973 Dodge Dart Sport still retains most of its original paint, all of its original body panels and all of the original interior. Very dependable and enjoyable, and an absolute pleasure to drive.
This is simply a no excuses, wicked nice and super rare Mopar and I urge any perspective buyer to look at all of the photos and decide for themselves whether this is what they want and need.
