1966 Dodge Dart Dart Additional Info:
This auction is for a very cool vintage Dodge Dart. It was originally a "stripper" model with rubber floor mats, manual everything, no option car. Basically a "grandma" car. This was the ideal starting point to build a lightweight, high performance Dart. The first Trans Am race was won by a Dodge Dart in 1966. This Dart was built as a tribute to that car. A freshly rebuilt 360 V8 was installed. Vintage alloy valve covers, breathers, coated, equal length headers, alloy radiator and an electronic ignition create a very clean and period correct appearing engine bay. There is a custom built driveshaft and an A-body Sure-Grip 8 3/4 rear end. A front disc brake conversion was also installed. As a result, this Mopar has the big bolt pattern wheels. Currently fitted to the car is a vintage set of American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. New rear springs and a set of roadrace torsion bars are also part of the package. When the suspension was upgraded, new bushings and gas shocks were also installed.
One of SoCal's best hot rod shops fabbed and installed a six point roll bar and alloy rear panel. The rear seat has been removed.
Inside, ProCar Rally seats and harnesses are mounted. A vintage race steering wheel and gauges complete the look inside. The battery has been properly mounted inside the trunk.
What makes this Dart special is that it still retains much of it's original green lacquer paint and interior. The body has never been wrecked or damaged and really has great patina. As you can imagine, with a 360 V8 and 4.10 gears, this Dart is very quick and accelerates with enthusiasm.
There is currently a shift kitted, fresh auto trans with a competition shifter. My goal was to convert the Dart to a four speed to complete the Trans Am vibe. I have a COMPLETE factory four speed conversion package that will be offered to the winning bidder(at extra cost) if they elect to go that route. It has a fresh four speed, restored Hurst shifter, original Dart transmission hump, driveshaft, pedal assembly,etc-everything you'll need-specifically for an early A-body. I also have an extra set of "Shelby" style wheels like the ones raced by Bob Tullius and Group 44 on their Trans Am Dart.
Should the new owner prefer more of a drag race type build, I also have the original six cylinder torsion bars. Many of the original parts(seat, column, hvac, etc) will be included.
The Dart still retains it's original California black plate and had always been a California car. This Dart receives a lot of attention when attending our Cars and Coffee.
Of course, being that it's a near fifty year old car, its not perfect. The body has numerous minor chips, scrapes, bumps and bruises-it still shows very well and I prefer the honesty of it's original look. The headliner should be replaced, the original chrome is presentable although showing it's age. The original windshield has the typical Mopar fogging around the edges. That's about it.
All of the lights, wipers, etc work well. It always starts on the first crank-hot or cold and has a fairly mild cam so drive ability is very good. If you are looking for a rough and tumble, vintage Dart that can be set up as a road race or drag car, this may be your car. It would also be perfect for the many vintage car road rallys that are becoming very popular. Or, have a unique, quick local hot rod.
Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
