1928 Dodge Standard 6 Deluxe Additional Info:
For Sale is a true barn find that I feel is a great candidate to restore. I purchased this car to make into a two door street rod. Things changed after spending 3 hours in the AACA library and finding out how rare the last of the Dodge Brothers cars are. Was advertised as the "Fastest Car in the World for under a Thousand Dollars" in 1928. The car was dry laid up by the owner the correct way. Fluids drained, gas tank emptied, oil changed, and cylinder's oiled. The car was not driven since 1958, the door jamb stickers for oil change proves this by recording one mile to date. The car was filled with debris and old parts which the raccoon didn't mind using the interior for a home. The paw prints are still on the side of the car. I cleaned out the interior and found the floor boards are solid. The only true rust through is where the cowl has a ledge on top of the frame. Mud was there cause dampness and some small cancer through the exterior sheet metal. Even the cotton batten between the wood floor and the cowl is present. All the doors are solid, work, and lock as they should, handles don't droop. one piece of glass has a bb hole all others are clear and the lamination is excellent.
I found the hand crank the engine was free, bore scoped the cylinder's,somebody de-carbon'd the combustion chamber. Even found the old head gasket in the car. Also found an old lay gear with some teeth missing, making me believe that the tranni was also repaired. Cleaned the plugs, set the points gap, soaked the cylinder's again loosened the frozen spark advance. Filled the radiator with distilled water only, no leaks! THE ENGINE STARTED! The oil inside looks modern so the main seal leaked some, pressure was over 45 at idle. could not feel any blow by. Tried each gear with engine running no issues selecting or changing, clutch started to grab when released. Didn't move car under it's own power, not sure on brakes. Put slime in the tubes and all the tires are holding air. Wood wheels are solid. No dents on body, Some on fenders, running boards hold but there is rust under the rubber. Lights work. Cowl lights didn't. Car has a dealer installed, not sure when, hot water heater and a stick on defroster pat'd 1930.
Thanks for looking
