Here is a very nice 1946 Desoto DeLuxe sedan.Original, smooth running flathead six with 4-speed semi-automatic transmission and column-mounted shifter. No knocks, taps, pings, or other noises from the engine. No smoke from the exhaust. No leaks. Brakes are good. Clutch is smooth. Radial tires with good tread all around. Paint is believed tobe a repaint and in very nice condition.
All gauges work. Electric wipers work, heater works. Horn works, but has auxiliary button on dash rather than on steering wheel. All glass is good with the exception of some bubbling on edges of front wing vent windows (see picture). Windows roll up and down smoothly. Doors close solid. All lights work. Speedometer and odometer work. Parking brake works. Currently shows 28,250miles, obviously not original mileage. I don’t know the history of this car. It’s either very well preserved on an older restoration. The interior looks original and is in very good condition.
With a wheel base of 121.5 inches and those radials, this car rides like a dream. The semi-automatic fluid drive transmission can be finicky, but generally works well with the exception of the “stomp down” feature which downshifts from 4th to 3rd by pushing the accelerator to the floor (intended for quick passing power, I never needed it so left well enough alone).
Overall length is about 207 inches and car weighs about 3,400 pounds
You won’t be taking this car to Hershey, but it presents quite respectably at local shows.
