1948 DESOTO DELUXE
The DeSoto Deluxe (also sometimes spelled DeLuxe) is an automobile produced by DeSoto from 1939 through to the 1952 model year. While in production, the Deluxe was DeSoto's entry-level car, and was offered primarily as two-door and four-door sedans. The Deluxe range also included the extended-wheelbase Suburban sedan. The body was claimed to be "rust proofed".
The Deluxe differed from the more upmarket Custom line by virtue of the traits found in base models, namely less trim, fewer standard features, and plainer interiors in fewer color combinations. A six-tube and an eight-tube radio were optional.
The Deluxe shared its engine with the Custom, and was powered by Chrysler's L-head 237 cu in (3.88 l) six-cylinder engine, delivering 109 bhp (81 kW) at 3600 rpm. The DeSoto had full instrumentation.
The Deluxe remained DeSoto's base model until it was replaced by the DeSoto Powermaster in 1953.
Deluxes produced during the 1946, 1947, 1948 and first half of the 1949 model years used DeSoto's prewar bodies, slightly updated following the end of World War II. In 1948, low-pressure tires became standard equipment. A fully redesigned DeSoto was launched in the second half of 1949, and these cars are referred to as "1949 Second Series" models.
THIS 1948 DESOTO DELUXE IS LOCATED CHALFONT, PA 18914 AND COMES WITH CLEAR NEW JERSEY TITLE
THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH ORIGINAL INLINE 6 ENGINE AND 3 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WITH A NEW 12 VOLT STARTER SYSTEM FIRES RIGHT UP. NEW PLUGS AND POINTS WERE INSTALLED. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GREAT AND DRIVES SMOOTHLY WITH PLENTY OF POWER. BRAKES FEEL GOOD AND STOP THE CAR WELL, TIRES ARE OLDER WHITE WALLS AND HAVE NO DEAD SPOTS AND HOLD AIR FINE WITH NO ISSUES. I WOULD RECOMMEND A GOOD CARB CLEANING AND ADJUSTMENT OR JUST GO AHEAD AND DO A CARB REBUILD. THIS DESOTO IS AN OLDER RESTORATION THAT STILL LOOKS GREAT. THE PAINT SHINES UP BUT SHOWING NORMAL WEAR TO IT, COULD USE A NICE POLISH. NO BODY WORK IS NEEDED, ITS A SOLID AND STRAIGHT CAR. THE FLOORS ARE SOLID, UNDERNEATH IT IS SOLID WITH NO FRAME ISSUES, NO ROT ON INNER ROCKERS. THE CAR HAS OPTIONS LIKE THE LARGER WINDSHIELD VISOR, REAR FENDER SKIRT AND DUAL SPOT LIGHTS. ALL CHROME AND TRIM IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION. FLYING ANGEL HOOD ORNAMENT IS ALSO IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. ALL GLASS IS IN NICE SHAPE.
SEATS WERE RESTORED AND STILL LOOK GREAT, NEWER HEADLINER LOOKS GREAT, DOOR PANELS STILL LOOK NICE, THE DASH WAS RESTORED WITH ALL GAUGES DONE, STEERING WHEEL WAS RESTORED, ALL THE KNOBS AND HANDLES WERE REPLACED, ONLY THE REAR WINDOW CRANK HANDLES NEED THE NEW KNOBS ON THEM. ALL LIGHTS WORK AS WELL AS YELLOW FLOOD LIGHTS, SPOT LIGHTS ARE WIRED IN BUT CURRENTLY NOT WORKING. ALL IN ALL, A GREAT OLD 48 COUPE. THE COUPES ARE GETTING HARDER TO FIND IN NICE SHAPE THESE DAYS AND HAVE A HIGH BOOK VALUE
THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN THIS GREAT CLASSIC!
Most of the classic cars we consider as projects because of the age and wear unless they are fully restored!
